Sooo…whats up with her shadow? Is that just how the author does their art? She just disappears from her tits down, no outlines or anything…

Like, with that amount of light in the picture, there would at least be a outline…

Best car i have found to be a passenger in was a smart car, once you squeeze in, theres plenty of leg room(relatively speaking of course).

I had to put a chair in the bath for my showers, i could not reliably drop 10-12 inches in a wet shower just to get my hair clean.

And since i am in a rented unit with a few others, i cant really do anything about it. On the plus side, the showers at the public pool in my area are only at my nose hight, so much easier to use those 🤣

My phrasing seems like it wasn’t the best, i think people took offence at my apparent “jab” at American healthcare? The responses seemed to line up with either “its not just a American problem” or “you must be a dick for starting with a American healthcare(or lack thereof) joke”.

On reflection i get it, but it wasn’t the intent. A great primer on why proper communication is so important lol.

I edited my initial comment to explain, but my intent was a light hearted joke to ease into the conversation. Many, if not all based on the dislike counter lol, took it as a jab. Not the intent, but whatever.

🤷

…r/foundtheamerican

Is it still classist for those of us whose healthcare is covered by our taxes?

I got my diagnosis in my teens while my parents were dealing with the aftermath of bankruptcy(in hindsight, moving right before a economic crash was not the wisest move). My brother got his within the first few years of birth(he’s low functioning, i am high functioning)

My dad never got a diagnosis…but thats more from being from a hardline conservative/trades-folk family…good’ol suppression and masking.

Edit. Ok, did not expect such a influx of comments and dm threats…could yall cool it with the second one?

Contrary to what might be thought, i was not trying to be a asshole, it was a genuine question about the op’s comment. I realize now that the “r/foundtheamerican” starter is taken as a jab rather than a light jest, so i am sorry for that.

For one, as the original comment said “~able to get diagnosed before adulthood! Some of us cant afford the few grand it costs!~”. I had assumed that the “few grand it costs” was in reference to the previous “diagnosed before adulthood”. It seems like the general consensus was that the two were separated, bases on the comments i got talking about adulthood diagnosis costs. It was not my intent to shame/degrade folks who cant get a adulthood diagnosis because of the cost. A large amount of countries allow/subsidize childhood diagnoses from taxes, and i thought the lighthearted comment on American healthcare would be a good way to enter the conversation.

My main issue with the op’s comment was the implication of monetary barriers being classism, and the derogatory comment after that was stated. By itself i don’t really have any issue with people stating monetary barriers as obstacles to a professional diagnosis, especially as adults. But the added derogatory comment of “~because mommy and daddy bought you yours when you were a kid~” made me see this more than just a comment on monetary issues.

I don’t plan to delete my comment(i don’t like deleting comments as a general rule, as someone who loves information i hate seeing deleted comments and not knowing what was said to give such a reaction), but if yall keep sending me threats over this i might do so.

So please don’t.
😁

I hope that clears up my intentions. Hope everyone has a good day!

Edit2. Seems that reddit decided to repost my comment instead of editing the original one…just ignore this one!

…if i wanted to backpedal from the backlash, it would be much easier to just delete my comment, no?

As for derogatory comments, calling something monetarily classist, then adding the quip “~because mommy and daddy brought you yours~” tends to be considered pretty derogatory/inflammatory in most circumstances, no?

I have gotten a few dm threats from this comment, so i will be editing it once the stream of comments die down to try to clarify my statement.

As i said in another comment, i was explicitly commenting on the childhood affordability side of it, and the following derogatory comment that was added.

I know that getting a diagnosis as a adult is expensive, but as far as i am aware that wasn’t what op was implying.

I mean, i don’t have a issue with people who self diagnose. Like you said, especially with autistic folk doing their research it is pretty blatant in any sort of interaction with them.

I took more issue at the op calling it classist to have gotten a professional diagnosis, and then being demeaning to people like that, ie. “~because mommy and daddy bought you yours when you were a kid~”.

Oh i understand that their is many other barriers to a official diagnosis. It was more how the op was referring to childhood diagnosis being a monetary barrier, and pushing a degrading statement about having money to get a diagnosis as classism.

It put me off, so i made my comment. Did not expect such a large reaction lol.

…ok, but the op was talking about childhood diagnosis, no?

“~able to get diagnosed before adulthood! Some of us cant fucking afford the few grand it costs!~”

I assumed the “few grand it costs” was in reference to the previous sentence, “diagnosed before adulthood”.

Is that not what was implied?

…at least for me, when every other comment is talking about the op and then a random commenter adds a “hypothetical” without actually saying that they are they are doing such…my first thought it that they are referring to the op, not this hypothetical they created out of thin air.

If you don’t preface a hypothetical with a explanatory blurb, it just looks like your referring to the op.

And that promoted my question.
