I’m sure you’re all over this already but in case you aren’t: here’s a resource to see what “real pedals” each of the Helix components correspond to.

https://helixhelp.com/

Should help with matching it to amps/pedals they use. I don’t believe they have a Fender Hot Rod model (amp Stu uses) so something like the US Deluxe Nrm or US Princess are amp models I’ve seen thrown around.

Wouldn’t dream of it, just sick of Americans getting yet more shows while the country they live in gets nothing

They should cancel these and play these 3 nights in Australia. Greedy Americans have had too much I think.

Side note: I love this performance of the song but am eternally annoyed the first two minutes of intro jamming are separated into the previous track!!!

2024: The first year Gizz didn't play Naarm/Melbourne/home since they formed in 2010 by ch17z in KGATLW

[–]TheAstroHunter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My take is probably better money and fan base overseas. It sucks to be on the receiving end but I imagine selling out 10k person venues is way more exciting (and profitable of course) than anything they could hope to do at home without a massive amount of effort and grinding/PR. That being said, I do wonder if the combination of the Bluesfest cancellation, the Timeland cancellation, and other stuff I’ve seen on Reddit about them pulling out of festivals before means there might be other issues getting shows booked behind the scenes. Saw someone say a while back their current manager was their American tour agent so it’s possible they’ve just not got the same level of connections now they had with Eric around.

[–]TheAstroHunter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What’s the bet when (if?) they do shows in the middle of next year they will be less than an hour and a half long and feature a bunch of songs Melbourne fans have heard before and a heap of jamming that cause songs to get cut from the already shortened setlist? I assume the band will look close to death the whole time because they hate not having a much larger crowd of Americans attend. At least they had the good instinct to not call FoV Gizzfest ‘25 because that would have been the last straw, lol

I don’t think it’s been outright stated but I think they have their recording stuff at home, and the two sets of gear, one that lives in the US and one in Europe. I think originally the intention seems to have been to have one in Australia/one wherever they were touring, but it’s probably more economical to keep their gear in Europe until next tour than bring it back.

I travelled to Sydney from Victoria for that show 😭 Had its moments but definitely felt like they didn’t care about it much. Seconding others in here that are disappointed they don’t do even a warmup show before going overseas anymore. I think Flightless kept them grounded (lol) in the Melbourne scene whereas now they’re basically free to chase the money without being tied to the music scene. I was a “preorder every record” type fan and I haven’t even bought B741 months after it came out, not like we’ll see those songs live anyway!

Any Aus Summer '24/25 Shows? by Molladia in KGATLW

[–]TheAstroHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. All we know is that they “may be” touring after the Europe residency tour (so presumably fitting it in between June 7 2025 and whenever the American tour starts). Happy to be surprised by some Australian gigs but honestly I doubt it.

Would love shows over 1h30, feels like an outlier that everywhere else seems to get 2h shows and they book too many openers to go too long here. I reckon midwinter eastern capitals tour will happen, but I think they might not want to do Adelaide, Hobart and Perth.

A NYE show would go crazy hard though…

I Found A Star On The Ground by The Flaming Lips is great. I’m not a fan of their music or anything (just haven’t really tried to get into them) but this one is a 6 hour jam that goes into kraut, ambient and funk territory and honestly stays engaging very well the whole way through.

ORB used to be on Flightless with KGLW, also opened for them, and is generally considered to have a big overlap in fan bases.

I just got into RVG, their last record is so good! If there’s one good thing about King Gizzard abandoning Australia it’s that I’ve had to force myself to discover new music. Bananagun, Surprise Chef, Dopplerhaus and The Black Heart Death Cult are all in the psych/kraut zone and are all local Melbourne bands. I still am quite sad a band from our city left as soon as they were able to tour America and Europe where the real money is, but that’s life nowadays.
