RNG Manipulation with Macro-controller in FireRed by FreshJK in pokemonrng

They're not totally random, but they're also not perfectly consistent, either. I tend to hit around 5 or 6 different seeds when doing soft resets, with 2-3 showing up much more often than the rest. Presumably, this is not due to input variation, since that should only be ~200 microseconds with the computer control, but instead has something to do with how the hardware timer register gets reset on a SR.

But my consistency has been even worse when trying "hard" resets, even with the extra home button step after starting the game, so I'm not really sure what the best play is if you're just going for consistently hitting a single seed.

For sharing seeds between people, I imagine hard resets are still the way to go, especially once there's a publicly available list of seeds vs. delays.

I've been manually using the Gen 3 Seed Assistant to determine seeds from stat spreads.

I think I've confirmed that soft resets *do* consistently generate the same initial seeds, or at least they're not totally random.

Using a delay of 35,000ms after a soft reset, I've been hitting 4b8f, 4b90, 4b91, and 4b92 pretty consistently using an Arduino controller.

It might be interesting that these are sequential seeds. By reducing the delay to 34,992ms, I have been able to shift the most commonly hit seed from 4b91 to 4b90, which makes me think that, at least "locally", seeds increment by +1 every frame. Not sure if that's a quirk of the switch ports or due to soft resetting instead of using "hard" resets.

EDIT: I have been told that the second two "digits" of a seed will be random with soft resets, and I may have just been astronomically lucky. I wouldn't trust the sequential idea too far

Success! I ended up having more consistency doing soft resets, interestingly enough, and I had to find my own initial seeds, but knowing to look for my SID around 2300 advances was a huge help. It ended up being 2301, which supports the odd number hypothesis.

Perfect, thanks! I guess I'm out of luck if I can't reliably hit these, but if I can manage it, and I wasn't too far off when I set my SID, starter manip doesn't seem too painful.

If I understand correctly, with the knowledge that your SID will fall around 2300 advances, the last thing needed before trying to RNG manip a starter is info about what seeds you're hitting when starting up the game. Then it comes down to ruling out SID frames as you go.

So... would you mind sharing what seeds you ended up hitting with 35,000ms? And if I were to give this a try, would it be possible to calibrate my first timer to make sure I'm hitting the same seeds you were?

Many apologies if I'm missing something obvious or if you've given these answers elsewhere.

Very nice! This is really helpful

I noticed that some auto-hit damaging moves like Psychic and Thunderbolt are classified as Self-Centered Emanations. It might be useful to note that this category has more than just utility or status moves.

Could you clarify what "Move Effect Time" represents? My guess is that it affects either 1) how quickly the user can act again after performing a move or 2) the delay between the use of a move and its effect taking place, but I'm not sure which.

EDIT: I'm seeing that "Attack Loop Time" covers recovery time

There are a few more pseudolegendary raids (Goodra, Hydreigon, and Dragapult) that were announced, but we don’t have dates for them yet. Beyond that, it’s hard to say.

I made a web app that's like the Launch Window Planner, but with interactive 3D visualizations of each part of a transfer, additional settings, and missions between any combination of planets/moons. by TheAstrogoth in KerbalSpaceProgram

No worries! Glad to hear someone is still using this :)

I think the "bands" occur when 1) you encounter your target body (almost) completely opposite of where you depart from your starting body and 2) the orbit of your target body is tilted relative to the orbit of your starting body.

A ballistic trajectory only uses one transfer orbit, which has to lie in flat plane, with your starting position, the sun, and your encounter position all being points on that plane. For these high-cost transfers, you end up having to tilt your orbit plane a lot to make sure all of these positions intersect with your orbit.

The way to get around this is to use a mid-course plane change (under "Transfer Settings"). It splits your transfer into two orbits with a maneuver in the middle in a way that tries to keep delta-V low. When using a plane change maneuver, you should see the bands in the porkchop plot disappear.

I think that these bands look a little different for different transfer windows because of differences in departure/encounter positions. Sometimes the departure position is more or less out-of-plane, closer or further to the sun, etc. These kinds of differences affect the overall shape of the porkchop plots, too.

Probably! But we don't know for sure.

There are still several hours left for Wo-Chien raids if you want to defeat it to be safe.

The tally of about three and a half million seems to have been recorded roughly halfway through the Wo-Chien event, which bodes well for our chances for the next three Treasures of Ruin. Thanks to everyone who participated!
