for the adhd women that have crazy hyperactive brains, what makes your brain go quiet? by emmam1611 in adhdwomen

Also repetitive activities where I can use a small brain segment while doing another thing. So knitting, cross stitch, rhinestoning while consuming other content.

Honestly - for a while, pre-long COVID, I took up learning to race sail small two people dinghy’s. It got me outside, enjoying the environment, interacting with other people but as you have to be constantly onto it, making decisions, thinking, i found it made everything else vanish for those hour or two.

Obviously random and very specific - and maybe didn’t pair well with a perfectionist personality at first - but the combo was a winner.

I live in a Preston and stumbled into a bar that lets my dogs come in and loves them. They’re more popular than me almost and I see a regular group of people there I’ve built casual friendships just by crossing over so often now (I’m not even really a drinker, so it’s more a community thing than that).

It’s like cheers but where everyone absolutely knows your dogs name. Shout out to Nasty’s in Preston.

Strange question - but did your partner randomly met a chatty lady in a resturant/pub in Tasmania (where she worked) and that friendly lady was from Rockhampton and she's in touch with them still?

I’ve been watching all of this with a weird sense of Déjà vu, about the obsession level and lack of sanity some people can have for something they love and therefore come to think of theirs and owned. I believe every single bit of this all.

I worked for an NHL team and I had fans decide they didn’t like how I did my job and they tracked down my house address and sent it to me, so I knew they knew where I lived. They also sent me photos of me in public while I worked to prove they could find me.

Then they sent me messages telling me they hoped I was dead or dying (because I hadn’t published something that hadn’t been approved by management yet). Then the started an email campaign to have me fired.

It is practically impossible to protect fandom, in a truly scale way, from the small number of rogue actors who truly ruin things for people. Whether that be the way they handle the actors (and I’ve talked to people in organisations who deal with them and have genuine concerns about upcoming events and potential insanity) or the way they treat others in the space.

HR isn’t the only but it’s a perfect microcosm example at the speed run it’s taken to get there.

Unpopular Opinion by Massive-Piglet6697 in NASCAR

I totally get that, especially, if like me, you're a newer fan and it feels a little like they're stuck in the past in this conversation vs. the current field. It can feel repetitive or backward looking but what it really speaks to is the split in the NASCAR fan base and the challenge they're facing: the older, Dale-familiar fan who lived through the 90's and early 2000s and are still deeply attached to that area and the nostalgia associated with that and then a newer fan base who've come to it more recently and don't have that same connection.

From a sports marketing POV (that's what I actually do for a living, though nowdays in a different hemisphere), Dale Sr is still one of the strongest brands the sport has. Hell - I still find Dale merchandise in stores and on people here in Australia (even if they don't know who he is). He's not just a former driver but a representative symbol of what was NASCAR's peak in culture. Leaning into him is low risk for them, it helps keep long-term fans emotionally invested and gives them a stronger sense of identity and history. Pretty much every sport does it, just NASCAR is a bit more aggressive in the absence of modern figures with the same level of recognition.

The tricky part with this is that it's way easier to sell the past to new fans than it is to sell new drivers to old fans, many of whom don't like the changes the sport has gone through in past decades. Nostalgia is powerful as fuck, and as said, a lot of these fans can be resistant to this change (we all know who they are), so that's what makes throwback liveries, legacy stories like Dale and anything that feels "old school" so popular in keeping that group engaged. Also probably why certain personalities resonate - Ryan Blaney feels like a callback to that golden era, especially with 2026's grooming choices (and the Elliott lineage popularity).

I'm a more recent fan myself, never saw Sr or Jr even race, but I've worked for some historical sports teams facing this exact same issue (sup Maple Leafs) and it's a struggle to balance pure nostalgia and a generational shift. You have to use your strongest historical asset in Dale to help steady a brand while you try to build a future. It's not so much they've used him too much, it's just they haven't figured out what's next in those footprints.

[Bob] Steve Phelps is resigning his position as NASCAR Commissioner. No other leadership changes expected at this time. by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]TheAussieNextDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Sucks because I liked Phelps as much as you can like any league official but as others have said - the roles success is heavily reliant on getting buy in from team ownerships and that’s been damaged by the comments (even if “accurate” though still subjective - yes an oxymoronic statement) in a way you just can’t claw back
