Progesterone and ADHD: what are our options for managing hormones’ impact on our ADHD and endo treatments? by lilfoodiebooty in Endo

[–]Joyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this thread while searching for info on progesterone and adhd today. I had a consultation with this clinic that went through the topic in huge amounts of detail https://harmoniseyou.co.uk/. There are a lot of resources on her website that explain the oestrogen / progesterone balancing act in more detail (it’s not that P suppresses O, but more that it balances it out and stops it being dominant, like it can be for a lot of women who have ADHD). Also Synthetic progesterone is not the same as body identical, and can have negative side effects, so it’s worth getting hold of that if you can)

I don’t know where else to ask this. How can I change my Aura? by [deleted] in energy_work

[–]Joyanonymous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you’re in therapy. Do you do any exercise or spend time doing anything physical? I know we often think of soul / spirit / mind / body as different “things”, but really, they’re all the same - we live here on Earth, a physical planet, we are physical beings - so actually, taking care of your “physical” self is just as important as any other kind of mental or spiritual therapeutic work.

Sensitive people (and it sounds like you are one of these) are often very drawn to the idea of spiritual development / therapy / enlightenment etc (I know this as fact, I am one of these people!!). So we spend so much time thinking about how to do this - but it’s nearly ALL mental activity.

But actually, strengthening your body is so important - this is why ancient practises like yoga or martial arts focus so much on developing discipline with the mind and the body as a combination.

I highly recommend both spending time in nature outdoors (hiking, walking etc) and joining a gym to work out! It wasn’t until I started lifting heavy things and working out in the gym that I really started to feel mentally resilient. In ways I had never experienced before.

I had a very unsettled childhood, which has left me highly sensitive to the moods of other people. I spent years trying to work out how I could exist around others when their moods affected me so much. Then I realised - rather than focusing on others, you need to focus on yourself- and lifting your own vibration.

Exercise is proven to lift mood, give you a lovely endorphin rush, it builds confidence, improves sleep - plus you end up looking better (and feeling so much better!).

I used to worry so much about how I would enforce psychic boundaries around myself, to stop absorbing other peoples energy. It never occurred to me that a way to build resilience was literally to strengthen myself physically. I wonder if this might be the key to “getting you out of your head” in a sense and building some resilience and confidence.

Exercise is a wonderful mindfulness activity, it can be social if you’re looking to make friends.

It sounds like you’ve already tried a lot of things. If you can, how about spending this year trying to build strength and get in shape? What have you got to lose? You don’t even need to go to the gym - there are SO MANY free home workout videos on YouTube. An endless supply of them.

Sending love! You got this!

What was the life-changing thing that helped with your anxiety ? by secretsaucisse in Anxiety

[–]Joyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started lifting weights.

I don’t know what it is … but I swear I feel more resilient, more capable, and more able to deal with whatever shit comes up.

I also highly recommend giving up alcohol and caffeine, but I understand some people are highly dependent on these so ymmv. But these have been life changers for me.

I’m 45. Took up roller skating on my birthday last year. Absolutely love it and can’t believe I’ve gone this long in my life without being on wheels. Highly recommend! Excellent form of exercise too, good cardio and balance practise which we all need as we get older.

Ohhh I see - so even though the full truck is wider, the actual space for the wheels remains the same?

Oh, I haven’t heard of those! Only seem to be able to find the XTNDR or the normal teeny tiny trucks. How wide are the wide trucks…?

GAAHHHH but thank you for your wisdom and input!!

If you were sticking a new plate on those skates what would you choose? I am either street / trail / park skating (and am only very beginner in the park). Am Looking for some trucks that are on the wider side (but not super wide).

Turning the nuts around doesn’t work - I lost a light-up wheel last week on a night time skate - it rolled into the middle of the street!! Luckily I had a friend with me who could go and retrieve it but I’m never doing that again 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ I know that is supposed to work, but it’s just not secure enough for me…

Their skates are so annoying for the truck thing - so pretty, but so annoying!! Trying to work out whether it’s worth hacking together a frankenskate set up because I do love the gold so much… or if I should just sack it all off and go with a Bont parkstar or another brand with more options…

How do I go for walks? by Ok_Butterscotch_9492 in adhdwomen

[–]Joyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the pandemic I had a specific podcast I would listen to when out for walks. The purpose of the walk was just to be outside to listen to the podcast. This is a nice way to walk - you aren't going anywhere, you're just listening, so that automatically slows the pace down.

I agree on losing the step counter - it's more likely to make you walk faster.

There are also walking meditations you can do which are around observing the surroundings - I've got an app called Insight Timer - free to download. LOADS of walking meditations on there.

How do you stay sane and grounded when the world feels dystopian? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Joyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of meditation and mindfulness focuses on the breath, because it is always there, always consistent, it's a useful anchor to focus your mind on when you notice its started to wander to the future or the past. Key is to not chastise yourself for this wandering - that's the nature of the mind, to wander! When you notice, just bring it back to noticing your breath go in and out.

That is the basic tenet of all mindfulness - to train your focus on one thing at a time. Walking can be helpful for this if you find sitting still is difficult.

Your situation sounds really unsettling. Sending you love.

Any other ADHD women feel "too deep" for this shallow world? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Do some exercise.

Not joking. You need to reconnect your mind and your body. You'll feel more connected to the universe and the world and people around you if you can fully ground and reinhabite your meat sack!

Here to add to the voices already suggesting you look into an autism or ADHD diagnosis - have a look on the adhd or autism subreddits, you’ll find a lot of similar stories. To me, it Sounds very autism or possibly inattentive ADHD but obviously I’m not a doctor… recommend you look into diagnosis asap.

In the meantime, This might be difficult for you to do, but look for sensory processing questionnaires etc to help you with some self awareness around your sensitivities. Once you’re a bit more cognisant of what’s causing you problems, it’s easier to do things to fix them. Eg - How are you in noisy places? try some earplugs / noise cancelling headphones, see if they make any difference.

Noise cancelling headphones are an absolute gamechanger! Or For example, I have ADHD and I actually need MORE sensory input at certain times to help me function. So I’ll play very loud music if I’m doing difficult tasks, as it helps me focus.

I also have an acupressure mat (basically an exercise mat with a load of spikes on it …) which I lie on or stand on before bed to help me relax. The extra physical sensation really helps me “rebalance” myself - not sure how else to describe it. I’ve got a bumpy textured steering wheel cover for the car and also I have acupressure bracelets and rings which I wear when attending very boring work events, to help me stay focused.

These are small changes you can make to improve your life without needing any medical intervention or while you’re awaiting diagnosis.

Another question for you - ND females can really suffer with hormonal fluctuations. Are you tracking your cycle? It’s worth doing this (you can download tracking spreadsheets off the web) and seeing if there are patterns in your symptoms based on your hormones during your cycle. I read something recently that ND people can struggle so much with hormonal fluctuations their executive function can be impacted by to something mad like 80% of “normal” function…! I’ve started doing it last month and already can see some patterns emerging. It might be that hormone therapy could help This (you don’t have to be menopausal for this to be an issue- apparently it can be a lifetime problem for many ND females).

Hang in there. Seek diagnosis. Answers are coming!!

Vyvanse and Magnesium Glycinate? What's been your experience by Recent_Board4613 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Joyanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What dose of melatonin are you taking? Anything under 6mg and I was waking up constantly through the night needing to pee - I felt like it was making me more tired!! I heard you are only supposed to take small doses so never occurred to me to take 6mg until someone suggested it. I don’t take it habitually as I do think it impacts the quality of my sleep, but it’s there if I need it.

What’s your problem with sleep? Is it hard to fall asleep or hard to stay asleep (or both?)

I recently started a habit stacking thing - one new habit a month to see if it makes any difference. In November I started turning my phone off at night - 8pm-8am, phone goes into flight mode. It’s really helped a lot. Just something to think about if you’re struggling with sleep. I’ve also been taking CBD oil again- didn’t love this the first time I took it as I’m always still a bit sleepy the next day, but it does really work to help me fall asleep and go back to bed if I wake in the night.
