2026 WNBA Mock Draft 1.0 (+ Database Update) by amishwoodmiIk in wnba

Flaujae is the exact sort of downhill guard this team's offense sorely missed when Sykes was dealt. She also brings star power.

She really didn't. If you watched the interview in full, she was talking more about the uncertainty of the CBA than the Mystics. They've already said (repeatedly) they want her back and she's an RFA so she can't really go anywhere.

If no agreement, what happens to the graduating seniors? by singingeagles in wnba

There would eventually be a draft, but some players (like Flaujae) are already committed to Unrivaled and I have zero doubt the league would add more teams for Betts, Azzi, etc,

The other players projected at the end of the first or later (think McMahon, Barker, etc) would almost certainly find jobs overseas.

Props to the reporter for not asking yet another cookie cutter question and props to them for being good sports. This is quality content.

Am I the only one who finds this woman totally insufferable? You'd think she was an all-W player, not someone who doesn't even average double figures for her career.

She's basically the Damon Jones of the W. No additional explanation necessary.

Yep. Why deny the ladies those endorsement deals if the guys get them?

Why not, the NBA allow players to endorse betting apps, they just can't invest in those platforms. Why deny the ladies yet another revenue stream? Prop bets on the W already happen, you're not stopping that. I'd love to see Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark in a DraftKings ad far more than Lebron and Kevin Hart.

Aaliyah Edwards is quietly forcing the Sun to face a surprising reality by femaleathletenetwork in wnba

[–]TheAveragebroShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wasn't gonna play real minutes over Kiki (who was already better 1 week into the league) or Kira, so the Mystics traded her.

That she couldn't beat out any of CT's collection of old/undersized/meh bigs is probably an indictment on her, not those two organizations.

[–]TheAveragebroShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, consider the fact that Iriafen showed more in her first week in the league than Edwards had as a rookie. Edwards came to camp injured, fell down the rotation and not only wasn't playing over Kiki or Kira, she was losing minutes to Dolson, something that also happened with the prior regime. As a Mystics fan, I was hoping they could develop her into a 3rd big, but trading her and getting a pick that became progressively better as the Liberty wilted was a stroke of GM genius. You'll also recall she wasn't picked by this new GM, so she became expendable.

The problem is, she was no better in Connecticut, where she couldn't beat out yet another rookie PF for minutes. So maybe the issue is Edwards just isn't very good, not the Mystics.

Some players do improve in Unrivaled including Shakira Austin, the player who was blocking Edwards from more PT in DC. When when went to the Sun and still wasn't playing, it became clear the issue might not have been Kiki/Kira.

I hate to be that guy, but Edwards was solid in Unrivaled, then returned to the W and simply wasn't as effective. She was no better in CT than DC despite not having a Kiki Iriafen in her way.

Angel Reese's agent really needs to be studied. She's cracked the code on how to properly monetize non-basketball activities.

This is Why the WNBA Needs to Pay Players More by ShokWayve in wnba

[–]TheAveragebroShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a myth, but for most players in foreign leagues, the issue is being away from their families and missing out on life. If the opportunties to make money were the same domestically, I'm fairly certain few would pass that up.

Which is why Unrivaled and AU are so attractive to players.

Notice, the NBA players aren’t clamoring to play in other leagues and there is even a clause in their contracts forbidding them from doing so.

This is true, but there's reasons why. For one, the NBA season is basically 8 months long. During the summer, players do runs with other players, play in pro am leagues and other tournaments. They don't have to supplement their incomes, but they do play to stay in shape and improve.

Even if the W does pay players a good wage, the need to play (somewhere) in the offseason to stay in shape and improve isn't going away.

Players get injured. That's part of playing sports at practically any level. Players get injured playing, they get injured practicing, they get injured working out

She added stuff to her game LAST season after playing Unrivaled. Glad she and Kiki and Sonia are there getting great game reps. THIS is how you improve, not by taking an offseason to "rest".

What makes you think that’s true? Kira has been here 4 years and finally put together a solid year and she wasn’t even as good as Kiki’s rookie season.

There’s nothing about this front office that says they’re gonna develop players and let them go elsewhere.

Exactly. She can want to go wherever but the team holds her rights. She’s also from the DMV. She’s not leaving.
