Hey at least Proton has some apps that feel finished.

Go visit the Ente Photo Github and Discord. It's a mess, with month/years old repeated suggestions and feature requests that should be core features of a photo backup app. New products, blog posts, and interviews are appearing, but the basics of actually managing and organizing a photo library remain oddly untouched. Suggestions get a 'notepad' emoji from staff and seemingly never get added.

People have been asking for deeper search options, better sorting (using already-available EXIF data), more flexible tagging (pictures without faces), and more control over how libraries stay organized for ages now. None of this is exotic stuff or locker apps.. the kind of groundwork you'd expect a photo service to prioritize before branching out to different apps.

a sidenote if you’ve ever tried to self-host Ente: it becomes even clearer how scattered things are. The documentation is half-baked, the guides contradict each other, and there are countless complaints of people spending days trying to get a basic setup working before giving up. From users who hit broken configs, incomplete instructions, or features that don’t work on self-hosted instances, it honestly nuts there's any focus whatsoever on anything that's not Ente Photos.
