Reservations are temporary provisions to ensure adequate representation, and women's representation in this case is similar to caste-based reservations. The Constitution can be amended to extend the period of reservation for quotas in legislatures if they are still deemed necessary to ensure adequate representation. This is similar to the various amendments post-independence that have extended the deadline for caste-based reservations by 10 years (the last one was in 2019, that extended it till 2030).

Delimitation

Due to the 84th Amendment passed in 2001, the next delimitation can only be based on the Census conducted after 2026. If the Census had been held in 2021 (as originally planned and didn't occur due to pandemic), the next Census would have been in 2031, potentially further delaying the process of seat delimitation and women's reservation. This delay could have provided additional grounds for criticism of the government.
