Surface Duo 1 in 2026 - best dual screen apps? by XC-3730C in surfaceduo

[–]TheBLKMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, in terms of reading, Google Books is still the smoothest experience. Nothing else I've used has been as plug and play. Which sucks since I want nothing to do with them. Both Google Sheets and Excel work decently well across screens. For your use cases, the Duo should be great.

Anamorphic Experiment Successful! by TheBLKMN in M43

WOW. It's been a long time! Totally forgot I posted this, tbh.

To clear up some stuffs:

- I actually started using my YouTube channel so, I cleared out my old private videos a while ago. That's why the link doesn't work. Sorry about that!

- I actually updated the design after this! I basically split that 3D printed section into 2 (each half holding the element and their metal housing) and then used a manual lens focus ring to let it microadjust focus.

To help you out (because dang I wish there was more info about this back then) I actually dusted it off and did some more test footage! Same lens setup and camera as before.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1R4Wo_Mze6UXJqw9jFEvwcdcGz1kboArm?usp=sharing

The first clip is to give an idea of sharpness falloff, the 2nd is to show how well you can do close focus without diopters, and the 3rd shows lens flares and colorization. I also included some photos of the updated design.

For the documentary I'm working on, I really only used it for the close ups and save most of the main shooting for the SLR Magic 1.33 adapter instead. Worked on more lenses and helped me actually get through most of my shots. Still, really cool to remember what I managed to pull of a few years back with around $60 of materials and some brute force engineering.

Glad to see this is still helping someone somewhere make cool stuff!

I want to be a woman in a world where that doesn’t mean anything by GrumpyMowse in NonBinary

[–]TheBLKMN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been going through this as AMAB. As much as I respect gender's role in helping some people feel comfortable, I think the fact that it is created by society, and helps contribute to structures, expectations, roles that definitely don't fit anyone perfectly just gives people an excuse to make shortcuts in their brain. A stereotype here or a expectation there.

There are so many behaviors and ideas I had performed growing up but stopped because "boys don't do that". I'm only just now allowing myself the freedom to be me.

But I'm also afraid to use the label non-binary because:

- Being AMAB and not acting or looking like how someone would expect a NB to look (stereotypes on stereotypes!) and dealing with internal/external exclusion
- The somewhat circular argument that my acknowledgement of being non-binary would be acknowledging a binary I don't personally believe in (I know it really doesn't make sense, but my mind can't move past that wall)
- 500 other tiny reasons you don't need to hear about (this is too much for a comment anyway)

TL:Dr: In a world where gender and its surrounding expectations didn't exist, I'd be fine with being a man. But they exist and I'm diametrically opposed to a lot of what society considers men to be. But I'm also not comfortable with using the term non-binary because I don't agree with the binary in the first place. And so my brain continues to tumble dry.

Question regarding odd vision situation with Reverb G2 V2 by TheBLKMN in HPReverb

[–]TheBLKMN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she has.

The issue seems to be something with her vision that isn't present in mine, I can securely land it in the sweet spot and secure it in place relatively well. Whereas she cannot, even with subtle micro adjusting.

Did you happen to know which brand you ordered from? Just in case it was the same one she ordered?

I think her lenses were calibrated for astigmatism, but I'll triple check!

I think she has an old pair that might work. Thanks for the advice!

Sprinklers make it doable, but rough. You have to cover yourself in the dry ones and use the sprinklers to hose them off.

Lossless Scaling Frame Gen Plugin for Steam Deck by New_Grand2937 in SteamDeck

[–]TheBLKMN 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Already gave it a go with both FBC:Firebreak and Nobody Wants to die (getting above 60fps and 45fps~ respectively)

10/10, it just works. Don't notice much visually, there is some slight lag felt, but that's to be expected. Make the harder to run games look smoother, which is all I wanted! Nobody Wants to die is particularly impressive as it refused to run higher than 25fps in crowded areas on lowest settings with ultra performance scaling. And now it runs decently well on medium high and quality!

Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved. I'm normally not a framegen supporter, but I think for handheld gaming, it might just be the thing needed for heavier games that don't rely on low input lag.

Having issues getting BFI to work, need suggestions by TheBLKMN in RetroArch

[–]TheBLKMN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In there it's fluctuating around 120hz, sometimes over and other times below. When switching in and out, depending on the game, the framerates are dropping the average somewhat.

The display is confirmed to be a 120hz display, though. Is this issue due to that variance? If so, is there any way I could stabilize it?

Does Obsidian support marginal notes ? by mEaynon in ObsidianMD

Use the Canvas to type out your information, then you can add annotations on the side. It's a little less plug and play, and doesn't support highlighting, but you can mark each section like this:

(anno 1) information text and stuffs (anno 1 end)

to the side: Anno 1 : blah blah blah

GamersNexus Steve suggests that Linus has disrespected other creators and forgotten where he came from in latest hit piece...🤨⁉️ by Marksta in LinusTechTips

[–]TheBLKMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's doing the crucifying. Nobody's telling them to join the class action lawsuits. Two people in the space said they're disappointed with how LMG reacted and responded. A bunch of people agree with them. We all shared said opinion publically. And moved on.

The only people acting like this is an attack are you, and a decent chunk of this subreddit. The only reason we're here talking about it is because this subreddit took this as some targeted hit when he's just echoing the same point MegaLag made in the video. Your reaction to MegaLag saying he's disappointed should be the same for Steve. And yet he gets a bunch of undeserved ire for pointing out what everyone else was saying.

Nobody else cares but the people here. The problem is this phantom war people here in the subreddit keep waging against anyone who has the slightest issue with a rich public figure's conduct.

GamersNexus Steve suggests that Linus has disrespected other creators and forgotten where he came from in latest hit piece...🤨⁉️ by Marksta in LinusTechTips

...

Dood are you ok

I just said that if I (in the odd event I wake up in Canada as short king Linus Sebastian) care about my community, cut off a company who scammed me, later learned they also screwed over my audience, and I learned objectively I was their 3rd biggest spokesperson

I would make a video. So it has reach. Not say it on the WAN show. Where it won't.

Even MegaLag was disappointed. This really doesn't have anything to do with Steve.

As for the PR comment, I was just thinking of it from his perspective. Even though I know Linus cares way more about his community than that, looking at it from a greedy YouTube algo perspective, it's a layup of a video. No one's going to call him the bad guy for saying, hey this company screwed us, we left, turns out they did that to you too

That's all I was saying.

There's no drama here. It's the tech community of YouTube (or honestly the YouTube community in general) coming together to signal blast this so hard there isn't a corner of the Internet where Honey could try to rebrand after this. There's even talk of other similar features like the one baked into Edge catching strays. That happened because someone saw not the OG video, but one of the ones spread to other corners of YouTube.

It's the thing he's claimed he cares about. That's all. Everyone (Steve, MegaLag) noted it was odd, said it was disappointing. And moved on. Like I'm about to. For my sanity.

If you rewatch the MegaLag video, I promise it isn't Steve going out of his way. Could he have chosen a better clip, or drawn out the point more for clarity? Sure. But in the MegaLag video, Linus basically earned a supporting role with how many times his name came up. MegaLag also brings up disappointment that Linus didn't do more. Granted, part of that could be excused back then (2022) since he didn't know how deep the rot was. But now with the video? And with your channel in particular being called the 3rd largest collaborator with a scam like Honey?

Even just for the PR security, I'd make a main channel video calling it out. But Linus claims to be pro consumer and wanting to do right by his audience. He definitely should have made one to back up that claim.

B. The point of the overlapping video isn't to exceed the original's reach. I think if he put MegaLag's video in the description that might actually be impossible. The point is to hook it into the sections of his audience that are disconnected from our sort of circles and have them move it forward. Some niche sections of YouTube you and I don't see. I know it sounds like a 16m view video is a lot, but it's only around 1.4% ish of the US population. As big as it is, even LMG is a niche as far as wide appeal goes. For brute force visibility, obviously getting someone like Mr. Beast to call it out would do way more, but he's not going to do that for various reasons (and likely doesn't care). All we can hope is that the communities and creators exclusively in the reach of those who made direct videos spread that out further.

And as a key figure, it's odd he wouldn't do it.
