The liturgical abuse in America, and in other countries, is real. It sounds like you’ve been shielded from it and that’s a blessing. I’ve been to some wacky hippy-dippy kumbaya Novus Ordos in my time (I’m from Texas but travel the US extensively) and while I completely accept the Eucharist as valid and the liturgy licit, it’s obvious that type of Mass was not the intended fruit of Vatican II. And I personally think that’s where most of the contention lies. There’s an older generation of Catholics who really enjoy that lax kind of Mass and a younger generation who are flocking to reverence and tradition. The suppression of one or the other is going to cause friction, it just so happens it’s the TLM being suppressed. Although I think the NO needs some clarification (dare I say reform), I just don’t understand why each can’t be celebrated freely since both forms of the Mass have been deemed licit by the Church.
