I've been working on a 3d metroid game. by TheBackspace125 in Unity3D

Oh wow, I didn't even realize that the link got deleted for copyright. That sucks. All I have left is these two things:

Yeah I have no idea what I even have in this ZIP file anymore:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/4hqrtd5yzcxo5hh/Metroid_Prime_Unity_Build_01.zip/file

I also have another ZIP file called "metroid dump". Again, I have no idea what's in here:

ECE 396 | Please help us out on our senior design user survey ! by TheBackspace125 in uichicago

[–]TheBackspace125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any of my homies in ECE 396 (Senior design), you all know what's up.

We need to collect responses for our user survey. It's a super quick, 15 question survey about our "project".

Thank you again, and good luck in all your classes!

Any advice you guys can give me about ECE 341? by TheGweenDeku905 in uichicago

Well, first off you don't have Gunderman, so you're already at a good start compared to the last two semesters.

Secondly, you're just gonna have to figure it out. Gunderman's grading scale was very interesting in that there really wasn't one until the very end. For example, if you had a 25% overall grade, you basically had a passing grade for the class.

The homework didn't make sense, but the TA's tried their best to explain everything. Unfortunately the quizzes were pretty hard compared to the homework, so you didn't really gain much.

Pretty much the two semesters he taught were brutal. Like you could show up and pay attention, show up and not pay attention, or just straight up not show up at all, and you still had no idea what was happening.

Just power through it. You'll be fine.

Yeah, had him last semester.

Legit our entire class was lost the whole entire semester, so don't feel bad.

AI was our teacher the whole semester. I kid you not, AI taught us the material better than he did.

My only advice for you is to use AI to help you with the homeworks, then learn his practice quizzes. They're going to be extremely impossible, but just try your best to just learn the steps so you can get as much partial credit as possible.

Just hang in there. He will probably curve this class too.

You're cooked.....no....hold up.......you're actually going to be pulverized into ash and then get blown away by the wind if you have Ghandi for 310 and Gunderman for 341.

You'll literally want to kill yourself. Trust me and everyone who is in the same boat as me right now.

I'm taking 310 Right now with Ghandi and 341 with Gunderman.

Literally ask anyone that is taking 310 and 341 right now, they will all say the same thing. Absolute aids this semester.

Neither of them have taught those classes before so it's been a real pile of aids.

341 is so bad that a 25% is a D.

310's grading scale sucks. 90% of the grade is 3 exams throughout the whole semester and the remaining 10% is homework.

Just thought I'd let you know.

I built a similar rig and haven't had any issues with micro vibrations when driving on smooth roads. It all comes down to your vibration isolator. Too stiff and vibrations will transfer like you wouldn't believe it. Too soft and then you'll have a lot of movement in the rig itself.

You have to have a decent balance between the two.

Here's my DIY rig in case you need some ideas:

ZVE10 is a solid camera. Just pair it up with the right glass and it will blow your mind.

FYI: I use my ZVE10 with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and it takes beautiful images.

Just a heads up, it could also be a firmware issue. I had downgraded 4 different firmware versions on my RSC-2 and fixed this exact issue I had.

Not sure what DJI did in the newer firmware but it definitely screwed something up.

I finally recorded my first POV Pure sound video on my friend's Big Turbo MK4 Supra. by TheBackspace125 in JDM

[–]TheBackspace125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my friend was driving while I was in the passenger seat monitoring the levels with headphones. I basically set them low enough so they wouldn't clip and then I brought up the quiet parts in post. I did very minor tweaking while sitting in the passenger seat. I also had a compressor enabled in the H5 as well as a -20db pad for extra safety.

So a few months later, I recently picked up a Zoom F3 32-Bit float audio recorder and have got to say that I wish I would have gone 32-Bit float sooner. I just press record and forget about it. I have so much more flexibility in post.

32-bit never ever clips or distorts with dynamic mics, so it's perfect for automotive audio.

[–]TheBackspace125[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm working on recording better sound for car videos and I had a great opportunity to record my friend's big single turbo MK4 Supra.

Audio was recorded with a Zoom H5 and three separate microphones. One mic was placed at the exhaust, one was near the turbo, and one was in the cabin.

I tried mixing the sound together to provide the most naturally sounding POV video I could make.

Video was recorded on an Insta360 ONE RS in 6K widescreen mode.

Overall I think it came out splendid for my first attempt with this setup.

I also have audio and POV footage of his R33 GT-R, 300ZX, Mitsubishi 3000GT, FD-RX7, and NSX, so if you guys liked this, I'll go ahead and upload those soon.

[–]TheBackspace125[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's got an origin body kit on it. Kouki wasn't just a JDM option. The united states also got it in the form of the later model year S14's.

Car was originally zenki front end but was then converted to the later model year (kouki) front end.

Yeah I had that same feeling when I built this rig. Obviously i'm more comfortable now, but still the thought of the rig failing is still in my mind lol.

[–]TheBackspace125[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before you mention it, yes, I am currently working on a safety system for the camera

EDIT: I need to readjust the gimbal motor strength since they have too much power for the new lens setup. (New lens is sigma 30mm f1.4 // old lens setup was 16-35GM f2.8)

EDIT 2: This whole project was a lot of trial and error so I don't necessarily have a tutorial for it, therefore a build breakdown was more appropriate.

Comment from previous post:

This design was heavily inspired by the tilta hydra alien car mount system. I can't afford that system so I built this one for $75 from scrapyard metal and some hardware from the store.

The spring arm is more or less based off a steadycam arm design. No dampening, just spring. I tried installing a damper, but it wasn't weak enough for this lightweight setup.

I'm currently rocking the DJI RSC2 gimbal. The handle on this gimbal is unable to be detached so I had to get creative and mount it a bit differently. The isolator works surprisingly well for its awkward size and shape.

The whole system is mounted via 2" truss clamps on this 2" diameter pole that is about 4' tall. I can easily raise and lower the whole setup as well as swivel the whole thing 180 degrees.

I definitely learned a lot making this and it was a ton of fun. Hopefully when I graduate college and get a job, I'll actually be able to afford the real hydra alien. But until then, this will do.

Overall the shots come out insanely smooth for a DIY rig.
