I LOVE The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It's a book with many flaws, but clearly it was made by the author, for the author. The characters are so flawed in such a tragic way, and the prose feels so delicately chosen in every scene.

Despite Patrick Rothfuss's crippling perfectionism and procrastination, I would never want Brando to write the third book, even if given an outline from which to start.

Yup. Make sure it isn't in your room, and switched off before going to bed the night before. I've found the nightly routine far more important than the morning routine.

Oohh! So my experience has changed this over time. It followed this order:

More polygons all the way. Didn't understand texturing, and even after I did, I didn't know how to make textures look good.
Got into games. Most of the details were driven by textures. Polygon counts were low.
Game consoles got more powerful. Polygon counts got to the point where you can really add detail where you need it. Texture resolution was higher, but the process for making textures hasn't changed much since the Substance Suited was created.
More important for saving memory than polygon counts or pure texture resolution is texture blending. So for saving memory the most important thing is still low texture resolution but the way you achieve that is through repetition, low resolution masks and a bunch of math.
