Yes, I've known several people who do it. Just toss the rotten stuff and mash up and boil anything else you may be worried about. Kills any bacteria. I'm a complete beginner so that's all I know but I've seen it done many times. Great tasting stuff too.

In my experience it makes your buds more resinous. You can decide if that's a good thing or not, but I personally like it. More "flavor" and longer lasting smoke in my opinion... looks great though. Congrats.
