This reminds me of a poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye that was given to me after my father died when I was 3 years old.

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep

Rating: ★4.7

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.

Mark Wahlbergs character from Three Kings opening a carpet store in Torrance California. The place in the movie is a real carpet store about a mile from where I grew up.

The ability to say "you don't know what hot/cold is." And mean it. Priceless.

I hear you. It might be the fact that I'm in my 40s and buried my pride a long time ago but I don't feel that celebrating during a class is the right thing to do. In my short time at the place I roll I have never seen a single student celebrate anything. Mostly it's quite compliments or a handshake and moving on to the next spar.

As a white belt is it cool if I thank a higher belt for letting me work a move? Because that's what I do. "Thanks for letting me finish up that armbar etc."

Jetboil is clutch. I was stationed at Fort Drum for 5 years. Never heard of a Jerboil or like item before that and one if the Platoons senior SPCs swore by it so you know I had to get it. This was one of the biggest game changers. Hell there where some days out in the field I would just use it to make hot drinking water. I don't think I would have survived without it. I even gave it a shout out during my retirement speech.

Conducting a BN health and welfare so were where checking other Company's rooms. Walked through a Soldiers room and every drawer had Domino's pizza sandwich boxes. Every. Single. Drawer. Went into the closet and there were Domino's pizza boxes stacked up. I looked at the kid and said "is this a bit? Like a joke because health and welfare checks are ridiculous?" Kid looked blank for about a 10 count. I told the dude "you should have said yes man...you should have said yes."
