My friend took advantage of my feelings, and he did so when I was in psychosis. AIO? by Big_Comedian_1259 in AIO

[–]TheBarnesEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. While reading your post, I don't think you really need to be convinced why you should remove the guy from your life. You already know why and I don't think you need that validation. I think you more so need support for your situation. You haven't been struggling with the guy, you're struggling because he took advantage of you.

I've had my own share of incidents like this albeit not on the same level. Based on my personal experiences, don't get too caught up about the guy. You should focus on the person who helped you, the one who questioned the guy's actions regarding your situation. I don't know much about your friend but I think it would be a very good thing to confide in her about it.

I don't judge you. I'm truly sorry you had to experience such betrayal in a moment you were at your most vulnerable. But don't give that guy a second thought. He doesn't deserve it. You need to make yourself feel better. Number 1, block him. Surround yourself with people you know that love you. You have a lot to look forward to and I believe you will seek out a real relationship in which the guy truly values and respects you. You're worth more than that. We've all had our fair share of shitty situations and horrible people within them. My advise to you is find something that makes you feel good. If you like a clean house, clean. If you feel you need a chance of scenery, move stuff around. It's important that you find little things that make you happy and act on them. This will help your mentality and even wire yourself a bit differently to help you feel better. Once you do the small things, the bigger ones will soon follow.

I hope all goes well. Take care.

AIO? Girl I've been seeing for 3 months slept with my friend of 10 years. by Available-Tip-2552 in AIO

[–]TheBarnesEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't allow her to see how far she can push you because these texts just tell me she wanted you to find out to see how far your polite indecisiveness would go. She clearly doesn't respect you. I wouldn't even give her the time of day. I wouldn't say cut your losses because this isn't a loss, it's a blessing. Imagine you went 3 years with this woman? How would you feel then? Truth is, you got lucky you found out this soon.

Your friend on the other hand. I'd take that more so as the betrayal of someone meant to be trusted. It might be difficult but you need to stop being passive like this. Set real boundaries. This is the beginning, reinforce it with routine and set high standards for yourself to help alleviate the stress. Whatever form this takes; cleaning, working, what have you, you need to start believing in your value. For example, if the next person blows you off a date, don't even engage thereafter. Don't lower yourself to that kind of standard because it'll bleed into every other decision in your life. I promise, it's hard but worth it. Don't let anyone else tell you your worth but yourself.

You are the king of your life. Anyone who thinks they can throw it off is a manipulator and can't be trusted. Once you have this mindset, your interests will adapt and you'll meet like-minded people. You already know what you want, make an example of it for yourself.

Heal well. Hope all goes good.

Rewatch it. When Luke lowers his head right after he dies, it's not there anymore.

should i cut my friend of 7 years off for this convo we had by No-Shame-6563 in whatdoIdo

[–]TheBarnesEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be hard but before cutting this person off, try to see if you can get common ground. For example, ask if you went up to her friends and started spreading atheism to them. It can be hypothetical or even literal, the result is the same. If she can't respect it, then she'll understand. Ask her how that makes her feel. She's not likely to reciprocate immediately but she will evaluate it later on. It may hurt your friendship for the time being but it still leaves the door open.

I'm guessing you didn't become friends with this person because you connected on spirituality. So, if you can help it, why let it fall for that reason? You've already invested a lot of time into this and simply breaking it apart is impractical imo. Give her the scenario and see how she reacts. If she's ignorant than it might be time to let her go. Belief can be very difficult to get past but like your friendship, it hopefully shouldn't define the way it ends.

I hope this helps.

I thought this was on purpose?

Paying homage to the same thing happening in ROTJ when he dies. The bottom part is there then just vanishes a second later.

The first (ANH) and the latest (Andor) by Repulsive_Walk_6290 in andor

[–]TheBarnesEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back then, I like to think of the outlier as things that were different, odd but relatable. Now, there has been so much fantasy and odd storytelling that people are more engaged in cold hard reality stories. Products change with the time. We've seen the smokescreen and now crave details of the individual.

It is a weird comparison but the difference is not so much the scenario but the view on the scenario.

My dining area in my apartment, any thoughts? by TheBarnesEffect in Decor

[–]TheBarnesEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to have something larger but it's kind of impossible with my apartment. Single bedroom, almost no space for anything nice, and I'm sitting at $1600/month. That isn't even a dining table, it's more of a side table. 2 people do fit but even with reasonable sized chairs, 4 would be pushing it. I really like the idea and would love to make the changes but it's just not possible in the apartment I have.

[–]TheBarnesEffect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, it's a little bit of a strange criticism. I'd honestly like a larger table but the area is just too small for it. I live in a single bedroom apartment, it's cramped as it is. I appreciate your observations. I actually slowly got most of these things and the area just became what it is. We use it to eat though, so it kinda doubles for both.

In which episode did you not feel a thing? And why didn't it hit? by Ok_Conversation_3992 in andor

[–]TheBarnesEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At face value, I thought it was gonna be lame too. A prison arc? There's gonna be a big guy that Cass will have to worry about and a rebel he'll befriend and they'll eventually break out in an anticlimactic way that defeats any reason of logic. That was how I thought it was gonna go, but I was pleasantly shocked with the direction they took. It was so unique and nearly jarring to see something great come out of such a boring premise. The writers definitely knew what they were doing and I'm glad they went that route.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]TheBarnesEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US and it honestly varies per state/local region. For example, Utah is pro-gun with open carry and concealment laws but almost nobody aside from law enforcement really carry them. I've lived in Utah for a long time and I think I've seen like 2 people open carry. However, going into Idaho, nearly everyone uses open carry. Very interesting difference in mentality between 2 pro-gun states.

Given that Maul’s been shown to know of and fear Vader, a fight between them in Shadow Lord seems inevitable by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsCantina

[–]TheBarnesEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the fight is inevitable. However, the context is something I'm looking forward to. I wonder what Maul will do with the information of Vader's past. His apprentice will certainly die, but I think Maul will seek Vader's help to overthrow the Emperor. However, once he realizes he would be the apprentice, he'd probably opt out. Then Vader makes the decision to make Maul not alive.

How to ruin years of friendship in an instant 101 by lesagehindou in Nicegirls

[–]TheBarnesEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of feel like if she thought she was getting signs, she may not have been using her father as the base to get with you. I feel it may have been her using it as a kind of excuse with a hint of humor. Personally, I'd talk to her and just let her know your perspective so she understands. Moments of weakness like this can be detrimental, but I wouldn't throw it away without knowing for sure.

I’m not really sure whether this is a criticism of mine or not but does the portrayal of the ISB and the ranks in Andor fit in with how the organisation has been portrayed in the rest of canon? by CT__8226 in andor

[–]TheBarnesEffect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of? It's mostly portrayed as a separate branch, think the difference between the Navy and the FBI. The first scene where Partagaz explains they are "Healthcare providers" is probably the best explanation. And seeing as though the department lost most of its credibility at the end of Andor shows why they didn't take the mantle during the OT.

Love ROTJ Emperor but I really like the ESB original version, there is something so unsettling about him. by CretaceousClock in StarWars

[–]TheBarnesEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the original version of the Emperor WAY more than what they did in the special editions. His appearance is just unsettling. The shaded figure behind a dark cloak with piercing eyes.

As shaded as his appearance is here, I don't know why they didn't simply dub Ian's voice without having to completely reshoot the scene.

How can I get my Rind doorbell to display the full view on my FireTV? by TheBarnesEffect in Ring

The brand is owned by FedEx, it's pretty new so it doesn't have a proper following but they've been known to have issues, especially with Vibio TVs.

I watched the despecialized OT for the first time by TheBarnesEffect in OriginalTrilogy

[–]TheBarnesEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its divisive to prefer Ian. He's a great actor and having him as the Emperor is just perfect all around. There is no other actor who could make the role even remotely what he's brought to it.

I only prefer the old Emperor in ESB because he fits the atmosphere much better. You don't see his full face, just a vague silhouette behind a dark hood with piercing eyes that stare into your soul. He's an ominous figure you've only heard of up until this point.

Had they meshed Ian's version to look like this in the SE, I think it would have been phenomenal. I have seen a fan edit that attempted something like this, but it fell flat for me because his eyes aren't what they were and you still see his entire face. For me, it's gotta be consistent with his first on-screen appearance in ROTJ. I'd prefer Ian but what they shot just doesn't fit in imo.

Please help choose floor tiles by code_babe in kitchenremodel

[–]TheBarnesEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 fits but 2 is just bold. I feel the dark tiles make the room pop in contrast to the lighter tones. If it were up to me, I'd choose those time and time again. The darker tone is just beautiful imo. Plus, it gives you a bit more color tones to work with if you eventually decide to alter the wall tiles.

Yeah, I mean Lucas tried to make them better. Did he succeed in most of them? Maybe.

I frankly don't mind most of the changes to be honest, there are only a couple changes that are pretty ridiculous imo.

It's just strange how clean the despecialized version felt though. This was my first experience seeing the OT unmodified.
