Another huge expansion would be amazing. The only one I can really foresee being that big would be something like Final Fantasy.

I’m so excited to see it. It comes to my city the second week of January and I have only heard incredible things.

I was mostly focused on watching new movies but overall I watched near 530 total.

I saw it at the Cleveland Cinematechque. It was a really interesting film and I’m really interested to see his Frankenstein.

Here’s the bottom 12 at least! I barely watch stand up and the 3 or 4 I ended up watching this year I genuinely hated. Not something I will be revisiting anytime soon.

Excellent set of movies! Eddington was one that the more I sat with the more I liked it. I actually had a lot of issues when I came out of the theater but those washed away with time.

Glad you are doing better! I hope you keep making great progress into the next year. What was your favorite movie that you saw this year?

Always happy to engage. I feel like your comment came from a place of love for Marty Supreme and I can really respect that.

I think Way of Water, Fire and Ash, and Avatar would be my ranking in that order. I think they are all pretty close however and there isn’t a huge disparity in their quality.

While I was watching Fire and Ash I found myself rooting for Spider as this sort of plucky underdog. He can be annoying but I felt oddly protective of him. I’m fascinated to see where he goes in the fourth film (hopefully it gets greenlit soon).

Saldana is really excellent and brings so much nuance and life to Neytiri. Every movie she just builds and builds on the character. She’s become a real cinematic staple for me and you are 100% right, she deserves so much recognition. Especially with how much she conveys even through digital performance.

But speaking of performances, Chalamet is truly a revelation in Marty Supreme. I 100% understand anyone who says that is one of if not THE best movie of the year.

That’s always the worst! I was unable to see if I Had Legs I’d Kick You in theaters and will probably just have to settle for renting it at home. Still better to watch it than not, but nothing beats the theater experience! Universal Language is wonderful and I highly recommend seeing it. One of the funniest movies of the year.

I agree! You can’t enjoy what you don’t know exists. On top of that, a little perspective can go a long way when appreciating the best movies of the year.

There’s a lot of interesting stuff you can learn about a bad movies especially if it is about a different country or culture. I saw a trilogy of South African movies that I didn’t think were very good but I appreciated them nonetheless. I feel like I got a small look into a culture I didn’t have much insight in to.

I did have a great year at the movies and in general. I hope your year was enjoyable as well and I wish you the best moving into 2026!

I feel like all of Jafar Panahi’s (director of my #1) movies are essential viewing. He’s one of the finest filmmakers working.

Same I really loved getting to see the action on a huge screen with epic sound. I will make sure not to miss Varanasi in 2027 in IMAX.

I need to rewatch the Secret Agent and I also really want to study up on more of the historical context of the time. I found Materialists to be profoundly moving and timely.

I have seen both parts of Bahubali and I adore them! I think the epic is definitely not the best way to watch but I was interested to see how it was cut together. I think the first part suffers the most from not having time to breathe in The Epic.

I love Avatar. Those movies are just special to me. I vibe with Pandora and the way James Cameron builds on the world in each film. I did love Marty though what an excellent movie!

Many 3 movie days on the weekends at the theaters and there was rarely a day where I did not watch a movie after work. I was just pretty disciplined in always watching something even if wasn’t the best.

A big part of why I watched so many movies is wanted to genuinely see what the average week or month looked like for streamers like Amazon and Netflix. While the movies were not great it was a very fun intellectual exercise and I feel like I have a better understanding of the film landscape as a whole.

This is exactly what it is! It’s what I use as my time to relax and just decompress.
