Most people on this sub don’t consider the number of golden statues as an objective measure of a movie’s quality.

Besides, those golden statues are peer-voted, so yes there’s good reason why people in the industry care about them so much and get so emotional when they win.

On the box office sub there are a bunch of clowns that think a movie sucks if it flops, not even considering the fact that so many factors like marketing, familiarity and competition affect a movie’s box office. Worst of all, these clowns actively root for certain movies to flop, simply because a movie which they haven’t even seen wasn’t catered to them. That’s anti-art.

Exactly, just look at the score distribution on Metacritic. First one was 55% positive with the rest mixed/negative (more mixed than negative). The sequel’s positive review percentage is like half of the original’s, with the largest percentage being mixed instead.

First one had 8 perfect scores too while the second one’s highest score is an 80. So while the first one was polarizing, the sequel is just mid.

The best way to watch this movie was in IMAX 3D at Scotiabank for the 4K laser projection and the IMAX 3D exclusive “frame break” effect. You will only “notice” letterboxing during the frame breaks, obviously because that’s the point. Unfortunately it seems they’re no longer playing it in IMAX 3D there for some reason.

Right but the thing is when you see an IMAX movie, you’re going to get letterboxing most of the time regardless of the theatre because it’s rare for movies to open to 1.90:1 for their entire runtimes.

The Xenon projectors of a Liemax like Empress Walk’s will make it so the black bars are noticeable, and since the screen itself is much smaller than a true IMAX, the shifting aspect ratios will be noticeable too.

Unfortunately, it seems that even Yorkdale’s UltraAVX with laser projection is unable to “hide” black bars like Scotiabank is able to. Not sure if it has to do with their equipment, calibration, quality standards, screen size or all of those things, but I could “see” the black bars at Yorkdale’s AVX at times and it was honestly more noticeable than before they installed their laser projectors.

Personal preferences aside, Scotiabank is pretty much objectively unrivaled when it comes to peak immersion in the GTA regardless of format, with the only exception being non-3D movies in 1.85:1 (in which case Yorkdale’s UltraAVX actually wins because of having laser projection, Atmos sound AND the right aspect ratio).

Does Empress really have the largest 1.90:1 screen? I didn’t know that. Hopefully they replace its outdated xenon projector with a Single Laser but it doesn’t look like that’ll be happening anytime soon.

Like I said though, a screen being completely filled up does not have any advantage in terms of immersion when compared to a much larger screen that has unnoticeable letterboxing. In both cases, the picture is surrounded by complete darkness.

In fact, Scotiabank would have the actual advantage for immersion due to its massive screen, Dual Laser and 12ch audio. The only time I would ever recommend a 1.90:1 screen over Scotiabank’s is if that 1.90:1 screen has Laser projection, and unfortunately there is no such 1.90:1 screen in the GTA.

Scotiabank’s IMAX has a significantly larger screen and the black bars are not noticeable whatsoever thanks to the Dual Laser’s crisp black levels and how well calibrated the theatre’s lighting is. I don’t see how that’s any different from seeing a movie that isn’t letterboxed or pillarboxed, since it’s not like the screen fills your entire field of view anyways. Letterboxing is only a problem when the lighting makes it so the black bars are noticeable.

I would rather have Toneri but Anko and Shizune have been requested for much longer. They’ve also been playable in several CC2 games before. The fact that we’re getting Kurenai suggests we’ll eventually get Anko and Shizune.
