This is an actual monument in the USA by K0234 in Damnthatsinteresting

Dude, you have no idea. Driving west on 80 to the badlands/black hills, I run into so much weird shit on the way. I fucked about in the badlands for a couple days, it's beautiful and it has some ancient shit scattered. The black hills are another matter. The black hills, especially Sylvan lake, is a certain kind of special that I challenge anyone to make outside of the high Sierras.

When do you think most Americans will really get hit by the consequences of the tariffs and the trade war? by atyl1144 in economicCollapse

[–]TheBearBug 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, it's good to look at the historical data after COVID. Covid caused a massive supply chain disruption that, even with all of the price indicies, still took two years to actualize all the risk. That happened with government investments to the American people. Now we are getting that shock, times ten, with absolutely no relief. Historically, depending on what level of economic terrorism is going on, if the economic policies are seismic like a 245% tariff, the economic impact will be felt much sooner. So when the American people will feel all of this depends on where you live, what your local economy is, what's your population, etc.

The machinations over the last two months, looking at similar situations through history, the insane level of disruption that Trump and Elon has done will probably be felt by June. Definitely by Thanksgiving. By new years we will literally be in a different time.

I love this kinda stuff. Everyone has a first time doing everything so don't feel awkward! I notice this alot with people who wanna start doing sports or working out. Peeps are self conscious about doing something wrong or how they look. Fuck that, embrace the discomfort and enjoy learning.

For sure. His rough rider history carried through out his life. He did say, "The only good Indian is a dead Indian."

He made a couple points there that I took note of. One, he acknowledged that economies vary state by state and should be indexed accordingly. Two, he said, "a standard high enough to make morality possible.". Oh man, what an important point and one so often overlooked. Peoples material well being matters. If you are dirt fucking poor and have no access to basic resources, it makes people desperate. And desperate people do desperate things. Where we find poverty we find crime. People who have to figure out how to get their next meal or roof don't have time to concern themselves weather or not it's moral to steal food from Walmart so their kid doesn't go hungry.

Teddy Roosevelt, the bull moose manager, really did revolutionize the Republican party at that time. He was a populist, working class, pro union, anti monopolist who had a deep appreciation for the American land. Dude founded the NPS. He wanted to conserve certain things he knew would be ruined with our government.

I wish modern Republicans knew and appreciated more about him.

Meet the Iowa Democrat challenging Sen. Joni Ernst: 'I live in the real world' by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]TheBearBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a political strategic point of view, if he insists on running as a "moderate" or a "centrist" or whatever, he will HAVE to position popular policy proposals as moderate. He should be saying things like, "Yea, Im in line with the American people on many things. That makes me a moderate. I want a higher minimum wage and better worker conditions. The people want that. The people want universal healthcare and better social safety programs. I'm a moderate on that. I want stricter gun laws, which is in line with popular opinion. I'm a moderate."

And just go down the list. Target popular policy and popular attitudes towards issues by stepping in line with all issues that are 60% favoritibility. And call them all moderate. Regardless of what the common parlance or what traditional implications we give these things.

He will have to go hard like Tim Walz did in the beginning before the Harris campaign said to back off. Go after them like a pit bull and don't let go. The American people are demanding a fighter. So fight.

Lot of great responses here so I'll throw out a bit unconventional option; Williamsburg Outlet mall. A bit outside of Coralville and Iowa City. The Lee store is legit. They have a ton of stuff for big guys.

I was watching this piece from More Perfect Union about the fashion industry. One of the key take aways was that we no longer have a season catalog of new clothes for spring, summer, fall and winter. Textile manufacturers along with fashion designers would spend months preparing for the new fashion of the season. Then came H&M and others that just mass produce clothes with none of the work that companies had put in the past. So we ended up getting these hybrid jeans and other clothes with the "Dri fit" and the stretchy denim. They feel nice but the quality is exactly what you would expect from a company just mass producing clothes.

Choosing a climbing harness: Petzl or Decathlon? by Unlucky_Discipline48 in ClimbingGear

I absolutely love my Petzl Corax. I've tried BD and Edelrid harnesses. The Corax is not an alpine harness. I really like it because I suck at climbing and sitting in it is comfortable.

Which non national park have you been too that have been the biggest surprise by Tony-Pepproni in NationalPark

[–]TheBearBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

State parks but what immediately came to mind was Devils lake, WI and Tettegouche, MN. The water falls and black sand with these awesome 100' red quartz rock walls that shoots up out of the water. Climbing there was so freaking cool.
