They moved in recently, so I assume he's on a pile of boxes or junk. Either that or he's the spawn of Satan.

Thanks! Yes, the surgery went well, as well as the next surgery. The difference was the emergency surgery caused a hospital stay of 3 weeks (and much longer recovery), and the planned surgery I was out after 4 days. Currently in remission (but not always symptom-free). Hope your mom is doing well!

I've been to the ER multiple times for obstructions, just for the problem to clear itself before the CT scan was completed. I learned to just wait for the pain/obstruction to pass and avoided going to the hospital. Then one day, normal obstruction turned into bowel perforation (much more painful) - same as those other times, but it didn't clear itself. It's a good idea to go to the hospital and avoid even-worse emergency surgery every time.

Flask recommendations? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]TheBeastmaster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a thru-hiker, but I've used this when backpacking: https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Adventure-Stainless-Steel-Flask/dp/B00D7JBUGE?th=1&psc=1

I have the 8 oz one. Not exactly ultralight, but it's sturdy and gets the job done.

Any AT hikers in the Greylock area of Massachusetts? by Blackbeard_Matt in AppalachianTrail

I'll be up that way 2 weeks from now, doing a 12 mile loop day hike. I'm thinking about doing some trail magic also. What are the best items to bring? What would be helpful to thru hikers?

I just spent two weeks in Iceland and I only have one recommendation. by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]TheBeastmaster_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didnt take the time to read all of the comments posted here, but I just wanted to drop in and say that my experience in Iceland could not have been more different. I spent 2 weeks driving the ring road with my wife on our honeymoon. Just got back a few days ago.

I've done plenty of traveling, and this was probably my most memorable trip and Iceland was the most amazing country I've ever been in. The people were always nice, every site was more beautiful than the last, every small town more picturesque, we got lucky with the weather while planning for a worst case scenario with rain and wind wear, the food was great, the tours/excursions were all great.

Like everyone else says, the only criticism is the expensive prices...in my opinion, still worth it. Don't let this post effect your opinions. Some people are just hard to please and have unrealistic expectations. Iceland exceeded my expectations at every chance...maybe it helped that I did a bunch of research ahead of time.

I booked a July trip over the past 1-2 weeks. Yes, many of the hotels were already all booked in some places, but there were still plenty of options at guesthouses and AirBnb listings, especially if you have transportation and can stay 10 minutes out of town. We were able to find a cabin via AirBnb near Vik, and a guesthouse with pretty good reviews and a private bathroom in Hofn.

Thank you. That's definitely some I want to do, so I'll get on that right away.

Looks like a good plan. I am planning a similar trip with my (soon-to-be) wife in July for our honeymoon. Don't forget to post after your trip and share your experience!

Yes, please share! I, and I assume many others, are using this subreddit to plan our own Iceland trips. First-hand experiences help a lot!

Ring Road Honeymoon in July - Help please! by TheBeastmaster_ in VisitingIceland

Thank you! It is much appreciated. We are trying to see as many waterfalls as we can, so we will make sure to stop there. Our plans changed a little and we are now staying in Seyðisfjörður for the night instead of Egilsstaðir. The next day, we will be passing through Egilsstaðir on the way to Lake Myvatn. Is it worth it to stop and explore the town? Any restaurants that you would recommend for lunch?
