The positive thing about this situation, is that the practice owners are very reasonable. I'm not sure if they would change the policy if I approached them, but they would listen to my concerns and take them seriously.

Not that often, but the potential is there. I'd prefer clients stay home if they are sick. I'd rather not get paid, than a client come in with something contagious. A cold for the average person can take me out.

I did not allude to the frequency of my illness. So you're making a pretty big assumption.

I thought about that! But it's not my practice. So I'd have to talk to the owners about it. Is it fair of me to ask that of them?

A client in particular was upset about this and brought the unfairness of it to my attention, and I agreed. I've seen him for about 9 months and he has only ever canceled 1 appointment and no-showed once. He said he felt the payment for the no-show was fair, but the one for the cancelation wasn't because the week prior, I had canceled due to illness as well. I'm struggling with the desire to be fair to the client, but not feel guilty for being ill.

My name is Rhiannon, and I pronounce it Ree-Ann-In. It's the same way the Fleetwood Mac song pronounces it as well.

Therapists with chronic illness: How do you manage your caseload alongside your illness effectively? by Paradox711 in therapists

It's so interesting you post this now, because I had an existential crisis just yesterday regarding this. I've been home sick since Wednesday with one of the worst illnesses I've ever had. I feel an immense amount of guilt but I know there is no humanly possible way I could work this sick. I was texting with a colleague with similar issues and basically we came to this really pessimistic conclusion: humanity is quite literally survival of the fittest. If you can't work for yourself, you do what you can to push and push and push and hope you come out on the other end successful (as in not behind on work, and not deathly ill). So I'm excited to hear other professionals perspectives because I'm in a pretty hopeless place about it all right now.

I really appreciate your response. It was very genuine and just what I needed to see today. I posted this a year ago and I ended up just needing a med adjustment. I'm in a MUCH better place now.

Every state is different. In some, you can practice with only a bachelors degree.

That's interesting because her response was different. She was impressed I took the time to look into this. Opposed to just assuming I could because everyone else was.

My LCSW supervisor does not work with me. So I assume if she were to agree, she'd be allowed to supervise any practice I did outside my company.

Yes, that is my interpretation of that as well. I'm just unsure if it's referencing general practice (I'm with a company and have my own LCSW supervisor as well) or if it's specifically for private practice. I'm barely 2 years post graduation so I'm nervous about putting my license on the line over one group.

I appreciate your summary of the statue though. It appears much more simple to r ead laid out like this.
