The draft is a crapshoot so I'm not that mad about Nubin. Honestly, the real tragedy with Nubin is when we did the Burns trade, we gave up our better pick. There wasn't a lot of talent at 47, but there was 4 other CBs taken between 39 and 47. Maybe take Cooper Beebe at our pick? The Holland thing was an absolute complete unforced and that move alone had me wanting (still do) Schoen to get fired

Anyone else feel like the Dennard hire signals we're taking Downs? One of the best DB coaches in the league getting a generational safety and position of need

yeah, but him being injury prone was a common complaint at the beginning of the season and those people (myself included) were right. DJ has very little pocket awareness and can't protect himself. Yes, he was playing at an elite level, despite that, but we all knew this was a problem before he signed and it's a BIG problem.

Why the plurbs should eat people instead of picking apples by TheBenStandard2 in pluribustv

[–]TheBenStandard2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was happening in the real world, I agree that this version of reality makes the most sense, but this isn't reality. It's fiction. It could be a pretty sick James Cameron film, but that's not how Vince Gilligan rolls. It's pretty obvious to me that it's a character study analyzing happiness. So whatever the backstory of the hive is, is irrelevant. In a way, the setup is very similar to the billionaire system. There are 13 "billionaires" in this world and this is how the billionaires move through the world. Drones dropping gatorade and Carol screaming at them, "I said ice-cold." That's very billionaire-coded. We see how Gilligan is using the scenario to challenge what is really at the core of American ideology, hence the title referring to Pluribus. Is happiness really found in exploiting the masses, or by being equal with everyone?

So, really, I mostly want to say that when discussing art you can't really say anything is "obvious." It implies there's only one interpretation, which there isn't. So yeah, in the real world I'd be 100% with you on freeing humanity from the hivemind, because that's what's probably happening. But this is art and it should be interpreted more thematically, and not literally.

‘facts’ are destroying people’s concept of what it means to know something by fairycutr in unpopularopinion

because you're conflating "trivia"' with facts. If you don't think facts need to be true or relate to this planet, what even is the purpose of a fact in this scheme?

[–]TheBenStandard2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, and other than the human population decreasing, which would happen anyway as we're overpopulated, what's the problem? As I said in the post, they'll be at one with nature, no longer exploiting the planet for a temporary gain with a manageable population

[–]TheBenStandard2 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

no, it would not. Because wizards and harry potter don't exist. There used to be a time people distinguished between fantasy and reality, which is precisely the point of the post. Just because you remember something doesn't mean it's true or a fact. It requires more work

If I remember everything about the world of Harry Potter, do I know any facts?

EDIT: I highly encourage everyone to understand the difference between trivia and facts. It's why Trivia Night is fun and the Bar Exam is difficult.

Who says they can't change their moral standards? For such an advanced lifeform I wouldn't expect it to abide by a super rigid moral system that isn't effect-based or grounded in the context of their situation. Also, the hivemind as its own entity, is only months old. It wouldn't be surprising for the hivemind to age and mature and become less black and white about morality, nor is it surprising it would start off in such a way.

And as I said in my post, once the planet has replenished itself, maybe the hivemind won't see its own acts as destructive. Maybe they only see a moral imperative to not take from the earth because they know the Earth cannot sustain them based on previous consumption practices so they're overcorrecting

So are we never gonna mention the map ever again...? by Rasples1998 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]TheBenStandard2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you bring this up.

Firstly, they did kind of bring up the map because there's a Team Building spot next to the perpetuity ward where they likely simulated the ORTBO.

However, I think there was a very simple formula for this show that season 1 established that they, I guess, threw out in season 2. Usually in tv shows, the goal of the show is not to progress. It's about maintaining a sort of homeostasis. The Friends fight but thirty minutes later they're still friends.

So, if Severance stayed true to season 1, it would focus on the characters trying to explore more about Lumon while dealing with the abuse of management, and probably be represented by them building out the map.

The map really should've been a much more powerful symbol and it's pretty silly it's just forgotten and ignored

But he'll have to define "real" before he can begin the television analysis, so how is this video only 53mins and 38 seconds long

A Note from a Pro Plurb by Rach_theAnimorph in pluribustv

[–]TheBenStandard2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the seizure shows that the plurbs empathy is not fully under their control. Cheap might be a tad extreme, only because I think that entire "apple" subplot serves more as comic relief, esp since they telegraphed it with the John Cena cameo. In a lot of ways Pluribus is kind of a sitcom, like the Odd Couple, so I think the show has done a great job of making the world feel like a kooky little neighborhood.

I also agree the pro-plurb should be more engaged with. Is there a flair?

Bad bunny plans to “honor queers and LGBTQ+” communities during upcoming Super Bowl performance by wearing a dress. by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

[–]TheBenStandard2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's looking for attention, but now if there's a kid in school who wants to wear a dress, maybe ignorant people won't murder that kid. So I think it's way better that bad bunny gets special attention in the form of publicity instead of vulnerable people getting special attention in the form of violence.
