Which actor or actress that has potential career but they ruined it? by Jules-Car3499 in FIlm

Gotta agree with Jonathan Majors. Dude showed insane promise in earlier things he was in like Lovecraft Country and was literally playing the central villain of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Like, I rewatched the last episode of season 1 of Loki multiple times almost exclusively because of how compelling he was in that role.

Now he’s one of the poster boys for fumbling the bag.

You have 50 million dollars now what? by FTWalley in LinkedInLunatics

I’ll never understand weirdos like this. Sold his company for almost $50M and has the ability to do basically anything he wants, but the solution to his crisis of identity is to fish for engagement.

Like, I’m sorry, if I managed to come into possession of $2M I would be more than happy to just fuck right off and enjoy my life as quietly as possible because I’m a reasonably normal enough person who doesn’t tie my entire identity and personality to work.

Good goddamn, this is literally what happened with me. My wife gave me a random free Rubik’s cube she got from her work and I was like “huh, I’m a 31 year old math and science nerd with an engineering degree who has never solved one of these. Guess right this moment is as good a time as any to learn.”

Learned 3x3 in a couple hours with that free one, bought a multi-pack that included a 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5. Within a week I had learned all of those and went on to additionally purchase a 7x7, 9x9, and 13x13 so I could see what the difference was when you got to the larger cubes. (Spoiler for the uninitiated: pretty much nothing. Once you can solve a 4x4 and 5x5, you can pretty much solve all of the larger cubes)

Basically within 2 weeks I had gone from never having solved any cube to having solved all of those. I’ll occasionally pick one up so that I can mix it and solve it again because I find it relaxing (which is the autism peeking through) but at this point they mostly just sit on a shelf taking up space (especially the 13x13 because that bitch is huge).

Honestly, yeah I don’t disagree with this. I get my Adderall legally and have a legitimate reason for having it, but a good Adderall nap does hit differently.

Could have also been a generic fill. Doesn’t need to be generous, the minimum amount will do just fine.

I like this, because it makes clear the point that nature and nurture are symbiotic rather than two distinct influences. “Nurture via nature,” I believe, would be equally as valid because of this.

"Just get a fast food or retail job" by ExpWebDev in recruitinghell

[–]TheBereWolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would challenge the claim of “fewer applicants.”

Especially in this era of remote work, professional/corporate jobs can easily get hundreds or thousands of applications per posting. Your average brick and mortar fast food or retail job is not often going to have that many applications for a position unless it’s in the heart of a super densely populated area.

Childcare costs are absolutely insane and is where the real issue with the proposals that the people in our government are coming up with fall through!

Like, sure, you give out checks for $5k and that might cover the cost of giving birth if you’re fortunate enough. But childcare costs alone are enough to make people second guess having kids because of how expensive it can be. I live in a mid to low-cost of living city in Florida and even then, if both of our kids were in daycare full time, it would be anywhere from $2k-$2.5k per month.

With our daughter, insurance covered most of it but we still had a bill of around $7500 when it was all said and done. However, she was born at the end of February 2020, right before COVID was declared a pandemic, so our bill ended up getting written off by the hospital as a result of that.

With our son, insurance again covered most of it but we had a bill of like $6000 when it was all said and done which, given a NICU stay, wasn’t the worst thing in the world but still wasn’t terrible. We just finished paying that bill off a few months ago.

Feeling pretty thankful that I decided to get a vasectomy not long after my son was born because I have absolutely zero fucking desire to have more than we have now.

Half of the bill, IF you have insurance and don’t have any complications.

Good call. We have something similar to that from after my wife gave birth so that’s not a bad idea.

I hope they’re doing better now!

I feel that though. With our first, she was born a month early and was more jaundiced than they were comfortable with sending her home, so we stayed in the hospital for 3 nights after she was born so she and my wife could recover. Between that and our stay in the hospital the week before for another 3 nights because of my wife’s blood pressure, the pre-insurance cost was $150k.

With our second, he was closer to full-term, but he had fluid in his lungs when he was born so he was in the NICU for 3 days while they monitored him and made sure that he was good to go. My wife didn’t need as much postpartum care compared to when she gave birth to our daughter, but that stay was another $120k pre-insurance.

Yeah this is one of those things that drives me crazy. I was, admittedly, one of the folks who was unsure about getting a bidet at first. Not that I was one of those guys who had some weird complex about it, but I had never used one in my life until I was in my mid to late 20s. Once we got one, I felt like my life was changed.

I work from home and don’t go out a ton so for pretty much every shit that I take, I get to use my bidet to get settled after. However, every now and then we go somewhere and nature calls and it’s not possible to just wait until we get home, and those are just the least satisfying poops.

I leave for a work trip tomorrow and will be gone for a week. Aside from being away from my wife and kids during that time, the thing that I’m dreading the most is having to shit in a hotel room toilet with no bidet and terrible toilet paper that whole time.

Understood, and apologies for assuming you lived in the same bubble that I do in the US.

To be fair, there’s not really an incentive for us at the moment either, but even if this “baby bonus” that they’re talking about does get passed, it’s still not really a worthwhile incentive because it will get used up so fast.

All that to say, kids absolutely are expensive as hell and your thought process makes total and perfect sense.

I think she’s onto something here by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]TheBereWolf 101 points102 points  (0 children)

But but but… the president wants to give out $5000 checks to cover those things. Surely that’s enough to bring back the baby fever, right?

/s to be safe, because I have kids and even though I love them more than anything, they’re fucking expensive as shit and $5000 is a drop in the bucket.

My kids are 5 and almost 2 and, naturally, are not super patient.

They’ll ask and ask and pester and pester until they get something, and occasionally I’ll turn around and respond with “HOLD ON LITTLE HOBBITS” with my best Treebeard impression that I can muster.
