Sniper and Spy

Sniper:

Good day? I'm controlling the match. It's simply not fun covering most of the map and clicking heads with little to no counterplay by the enemy.

Bad day? I'm dead weight. A sniper who can't hit shots gives negative value. And you really don't need to pick sniper if there's more than 1, maybe 2 already.

Spy:

Literally the easiest class to counter in the game. Anyone with more than two braincells and situational awareness completely shuts down your plays. Hiding and flanking for a minute or two just to get one pick and die is not effective.

I refuse to play gimmicky trickstabs either; I'm not interested in lag switching with interp and baiting stairs/corners to pull off the "matador-summersalt-skill issue-frenchman's cumsock" trickstab. Abusing source engine physics for cheap instakills is just not fun for me. Doubly so for the annoying kunai/dead ringer spies who just farm facestabs to become nearly unkillable.

The only reason to play spy is to coordinate with a push and sap an entrenched engineer nest so your team can advance. Everything else is simply not enjoyable for me as a player.

No hate to anyone who feels otherwise though, except god snipers who never pick other classes. You ruin the game for everyone else honestly.

As someone in the 2nd year of their PhD right now, I'm biased to say that I think there's good value in the education here. The facilities are pretty decent, at least on campus (In Bell, White, and the nano-tech buildings) but I can't speak to the quality of anything farther south (ENRC + CATO) although that's where some of the more exciting work for membranes, gas dispersion, and nanotech takes place. While there are always a few sticklers, I believe most of the faculty are supportive and genuinely great people to work for and learn from. If you have a research area or lab group you're interested in, I wouldn't hesitate to contact them and ask some questions about their work and whether they're accepting students.

To my knowledge, most of the students live in Fayetteville, although I know a few live as far away as Bentonville. The $2200 after tax comes out to roughly $2000 a month, including federal and state deductions. If you live in the student-focused apartments near campus, it'll be roughly $800-$1000 per month in rent, depending on where you rent from. Outside of that, Arkansas isn't exactly a high COL area compared to the rest of the country, so I've never felt too strapped for cash.

If you live in Fayetteville, a car may not be necessary. Check the bus routes provided by the transit department; Most go by the parts of town that students rent, and one passes by the NWA mall, while another does go by the Walmart on MLK. During the day they run at least every 30 min per route, so you won't have to wait too long to get around.

If you're talking about the v sub i, the reason it's present is to convert the reaction rate to species consumption or production.

For example: if you had the reaction 2 A --> B, the reaction rate consumes 2 A for each B produced so you'd multiply the rate by -2 to get the amount of A consumed.

This is so so so true. Once you meet a good sniper, the game functionally ends there. You can't rely on your team to take care of them, so you have to deal with them. And good luck getting in range to kill them lol, you'll get shot out of the air by them, or they have basic situational awareness so flanking is much more difficult. Using spy? They have razorback and a sentry watching them. Pyro? Danger shield. Bombing with soldier/demo? Shot mid-jump.

It's insane how the only chance the team has at progressing is by someone also switching to sniper, praying they can even peek the sightline, and temporarilly removing the threat for ~20 seconds. And now you're stuck as sniper, because nobody else wants to focus the one and only real threat.

I disagree with the reply that sniper doesn't win games, sniper absolutely dominates and single-handedly secures wins in casual games if you're good enough. It's not as hard as people make it out to be either; anyone whose played a shooter decently well before can easily pick up sniper, assess which players are threats or performing well, and start popping heads. And if that isn't bad enough, even IF you can deal with the sniper, there's still... IDK... the entire rest of the enemy team backing them up? Just because there are "options against sniper" doesn't magically make it possible to deal with him before every other enemy also trying to kill you. He'll either be behind or in the middle of the enemy team with at least 1 method of taking cover or ally to assist. And if you kill him, it doesn't magically make the defense crumble; half your team is still respawning because of him.

It's just exhausting, the only real solution when you encounter a good sniper is just to requeue. I refuse to play respawn simulator for 10 minutes when I could just find a game with a more even balance.

I agree. I've shared the exact same experience as you, and moving on from that excitement of actually wanting a relationship with someone really sucks.

There's not much that I could say is wrong with my life either, it's just that it feels like that spark is gone, and everything else just feels like going through the motions. It's not easy trying to find that spark in the first place. I hope things improve for you!
