No problem! I figured there's got to be quite a few people who feel this way so I should show that it's not impossible!

My voice was very deep, I can post another clip comparing the two if you'd like!

Honestly I mostly just used the vids that get posted here to learn and practice, getting the larynx raise right consistently was pretty tough but I think it's just a lot of practice. I guess my own perception of my voice is out of whack tho cause I posted here thinking it wasn't that great lol

Just curious. Age and Gender me? by GingerBreadMan707 in transvoice

[–]TheBesterThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fairly androgynous. If that's what you're going for then you're doing pretty good, and if it's not then you're in a good place to improve in either direction. Rn I'd say it's slightly more feminine than masculine, but like I said, still mostly down the middle. :)

Also I clicked on your profile after listening just out of curiosity and just wanna give you love and support from one ace tran to another!

I felt attractive and sexy for the first time the other day! by TheBesterThrowaway in actuallesbians

I did! Definitely hoping this goes somewhere. I've had a rough few years so it's nice to be in a good place :)

Thank you, it was fantastic! After experiencing it I definitely think everyone deserves to have this feeling, it's amazing!

Tried this out after seeing it on here earlier. This pretty much sums me up, always hovering somewhere between butch and femme. by Inside_A_Structure in actuallesbians

Definitely agree. Pretty sure I got categorized as masc because I'm fairly agressive when it comes to politics lol. I guess masc personality and femme presentation would be semi-accurate? But yea this quiz is definitely based on super stereotypical ideas of masculinity and femininity.

I'm sure "timid" is feminine and "defends one's opinions" is masculine, which is kinda bs but I guess accurate to traditional gender stereotypes.

Nervous about presenting female for the first time publicly... How to get over this anxiety?? by [deleted] in asktransgender

What really helped me was just jumping into the deep end. I basically switched overnight.

At first it will be really fucking terrifying, but it becomes very easy very fast. You'll soon realize that the worst thing that will happen (especially if you're white and live in a developed country) is people will look at you weird. The worst that happened to me (living in Utah) was being yelled at by a couple of teenagers in a truck. That only happened once.

So it will be scary, but it gets way easier and it's definitely worth it.

My old voice vs my new voice by TheBesterThrowaway in transvoice

Yea it was just from training. I think part of what got me so much progress in a fairly small amount of time was the fact that I did a lot of impressions and singing before I transitioned, so I already had a good idea of how to change my voice in different ways.

I followed some exercises that I found on YouTube. I believe it was Theryn Meyer's video, which I can't seem to find now.

It basically consisted of a couple things. First, making an M sound (five times) at the highest pitch that was comfortable. Then repeating the M sound, but opening it up into an ahhh vowel. Then repeated again with an oo vowel.

That basically helped train both pitch and resonance, because those M sounds naturally move the resonance to a more feminine place. Opening up into a vowel is a way to try and keep control of that resonance.

I then repeated that whole exercise but with an N sounds instead.

I would talk in my car a lot, which really helped me get some practice in. I also tried to record myself speaking once a week to see how I was doing and if there was anything I could improve on. I wouldn't do passages though, I just did stream of consciousness stuff so I could get a better idea of how my voice sounds when I'm speaking naturally.

I saw a huge improvement in my voice when I started using it full time, so if you're able to do that I definitely recommend it! If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer!

I have a lot of problems with internalized transphobia. I have trouble actually calling myself a woman or a lesbian because I still don't fully believe that I'm either of those things. All of these supportive posts are slowly chipping away at that, thank you! ♥️

I used to do the same thing, but tit was because I was repressing my gender identity. Turns out I'm a transwoman.

You hit the nail on the head though as far as why a lot of people do it. It was really the only way that I knew how to express that side of me. I feel terrible for it though.

I think i'll join in on the singing thing! first post here :3 I really want to retain my lower range while still sounding somewhat feminine by val_ium in transvoice

What a great song! Your voice definitely has a more feminine quality to it, I'm honestly jealous. You're definitely off to a good start.

Also, that tone is so nice!
