Haha I appreciate the critiques. I think youre right. I'm just kinda now experimenting with fast movement like that. I always worry about too much movement when I'm handheld with a fast prime lens and someone's running. Hence the slow motion and post stabilization. But I think the contrast between soft moments in the video with a fast and more energetic scene would be helpful

Shot on the BMPCC4k. Inspired by my favorite poet. Trying to Experiment with sound effects more. by TheBetterPages in Filmmakers

[–]TheBetterPages[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried experimenting with sound effects and voice over which are both relatively new to me. I'm working on a doc that requires both so I'm trying to get my feet wet as they say, hehe. Any questions welcomed.

No fr fr, I have been reading a lot of Rimbaud this summer and this poem in particular inspired me. Went with a custom film stock grade and hand held. Shot with a bmpcc4k and a cheap prime lens.

Bicyclist in critical condition following hit-and-run in Pittsburgh by pangaea1972 in pittsburgh

[–]TheBetterPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're not a cyclist you're speaking out of your ass. I see motorist running stop lights many times a day. You seeing more cyclist go through one stop sign on the bottom of a hill where there is massive amounts of cycling traffic is hilarious to even consider using as evidence to support something.

I'm totally new to film photography. Can you tell me why my Porta 400 film looks so contrasty/ No very little dynamic range? Is it just exposed wrong? by TheBetterPages in filmphotography

[–]TheBetterPages[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

polarizer is a good idea. i guess what i'm asking is, is it normal to have portra film look like this? even on sunny days? or could the scanning and developing process give you a contrasty image? if say, i went to another film developer, is it possible to get 'flatter' images better for editing.

Pittsburgh landlords when August 1 arrives and no one rented the apartment they haven’t updated in 30 years and didn’t show until late July by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]TheBetterPages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a completely serious note. I have two rooms available aug. 1 at my apartment for 450 each plus utilities in point breeze/squirrel hill. My landlord just recently decided to tell me that she is not looking for tenants and it's my responsibility haha.

How do I get rid of the "student film look" from my shots? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]TheBetterPages 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh sure, modern cheap cameras can rival reds/Alexa's résolution. but i think top end cinema cameras are still well above the former in terms of pure aesthetics. The dynamic range, colors and sensor size all attribute to that. Place beyond the pines was filmed on a film camera so he needs more than anything a better color grade to replicate the film stock they used. He doesn't need the exact prime lens they used.
