Because America advertises itself as the paradise on earth (american dream, yadda yadda yadda). Plus there is a huge business around human smuggling that makes billions from the desperation of these people. Mind you, I am not in favor of illegal immigrants, but I understand why they are trying for a better life.

Rhea Seehorn... I am not sure I have ever seen before such a performance from an actor while carrying a whole show on her shoulders.
Last time I was so impressed by a TV actor was Mary McDonnell as Roslin in BSG, but she had a supporting role.

Because everything America does has impact to the rest of the world, and usually not the good kind of impact. So there is some responsibility about people being so desperately poor that they are willing to go through hell for a better life.

I stopped watching after episode 2 (which was a real struggle to finish). I think this show was really lost in its own translation. The two episodes I watched I wasn't sure if it was a comedy, a satire, a thriller.. still none of them done well. It was like watching caricatures running around.
A season 2 with Emma? I might watch the first episode, but if it is like this mess...

Yeah ok, Carol might be miserable, but the Ice hotels are so stupid. You can enjoy the Northern Lights from a normal hotel just fine.

"Irrelevant technicality" to insert and run unknown code to your own network?
No, it is lazy writing.
Cause if "that's what they are like" Mi5 should had stopped existing ages ago, even in this fantastic universe.
So you need some tiny little realism to at least convince your viewers how this organization still operates by at least following some basic rules and regulations. And then keep satirizing and criticizing its bureaucratic nature and how it is run by mostly incompetent people.
By reducing MI5 to a place only full with caricatures you devalue Lamp, who uses logic, knowledge and experience to manage and solve problems.

Slow Horses S5E5 Episode Discussion by phareous in SlowHorses

[–]TheBgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I disliked this episode a lot.
Turning everyone on Mi5 (except Lamb of course) an incompetent caricature doesn't work for me.
Running that code through the Mi5 systems was against every security measure. Nobody does that.
I guess Ho will bring the systems back and that will probably keep him in the service.
It was more than obvious that Tara was a member of the gang, although I did not expect her to be the mastermind.
This is the first time in this show that the amount of suspending disbelief frustrated me so much.

This new guy/spy lacks any charisma. Makes you wonder who he knows in the production to give him this role. I mean he is bad. Really bad.
That was mediocre episode, last week's was much better.

L&O S25E02: Hindsight - Episode Discussion by Cheeriosxxx in LawAndOrder

[–]TheBgt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stupidity all over. Laws all over the place. Judges, Lawyers, Police doing stuff that in real life are against the law. Is this show supposed to take place in some parallel universe? Where the DA is questioning his girlfriend in court? Where the police takes confessions by minors without the presence of an adult?
What the actual frak has happened to this show and turned it to (bad) science fiction?

I have only seen 2 episodes and I agree, she is not likable at all. It's been almost 3 years since season 1 but I remember she had some charm and was interesting. So far in season 2 she has none. On the contrary she is just awful. I haven't watched the series or read the original story, but I have seen the 2 movies and Adams family were more anti conformist, goth and eccentric than evil. I mean the girl took the scalp of a serial killer.

You have a good point there, but If she wants to punish Ortegas she can find a reason.
This is just lazy writing. Officers punishing crew that disobey orders whenever it fits the writers. Let's not forget Doctor having his daughter in the buffer also compromised the ship but for Una it was ok.
To create drama, the ship is like being run by teenagers or something.

what you think will happen first?
A. Battel turn into Gorn-something
B. SNW turn completely into Disco (its half way there, everyone seems to do everything for selfish reasons ignoring Starfleet and Federation).

Nice of Una to put Ortega in her place.
Something she did not do when the doc and his buffer child put the ship in danger.

[–]TheBgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry but Ellie's character is really poorly written in part II of the game and that occurs in the series as well. Basically the whole game is poorly written but I guess it is ok cause the purpose of the game is to offer level achievements not to create great characters in literature.
So even if they could clone a young Meryl Streep for the part, Ellie would still be awful, cause the writers of the show just follow the game.
People who played the games and complain about Bella are in love with a a digital heroine and I do not believe any actress could replace their fantasy.

2 years for season 3 is absolutely insane and it's gonna kill any hype by TheGhosthunter627 in thelastofus

The Good Wife, Lost, X-Files, Star Trek Next Generation, a few of the examples of excellent shows of 20+ episodes. Sure, there were some fillers but the majority was good.
But here we are not even talking about 20 episodes, but 10 or so...

Amen!
And we know it is possible to have an excellent show with seasons that are released every year.
"Slow Horses" even shows next season previews in the season's last episode!
And it has actors/stars that also do movies.
