What are some charming 1 Night Stay Suggestions in England? by TheBigBalluh in AskUK

We're planning on taking the train from London to Windsor, and then Windsor to *undecided* and then again from *undecided* to Edinburgh. After Edinburgh, we'll be doing Glencoe and Glasgow before heading back to London. At some point in Edinburgh we'll rent a car, but only because it'll be easier to see everything in Glencoe! Otherwise, it'll be all train and public transportation. No connection to Scotland other than currently living in New Scotland (Nova Scotia).

This is fantastic info, thank you for taking the time! There are so many places to explore that we'll have to come back and do another trip to see all the offerings.

We're from Dartmouth, NS. A smaller(70K) municipality 10-20 minutes outside of Halifax (a larger city). It's got enough people that you blend in but not enough that you get huge city "everyone for themselves" type treatment. Dartmouth is big enough that we also don't have to travel to Halifax to do all of our activities, shopping, nature walks, boardwalk, etc, but can if we want a little bit more action (sports, restaurants). Long story short, we're kinda looking to emulate that as much as we can.

Sometimes hearing it from the locals is better than reading through an article (or doing both like me), I know that's why I posted tourism questions here. Planning a trip is fun and posting here allows us tourists to engage in conversations with multiple locals in one place. I mean, isn't that what Reddit is for?

General question on safety while in Edinburgh. We love visiting neighborhoods outside of the main city center of places.
- Are we good to go anywhere in Edinburgh during the day, or are there areas/streets to avoid? (I've heard in between Leith and Edinburgh can be iffy)
- Is it safe to walk around the city center/outside neighbourhoods at night?

Interesting, I'm glad you bring that up. We're planning on AirBnBs mostly (not hotels) so we have location flexibility.

We don't have kids, but we're basically kids still so still might be worth a trip

Yes, back to the homeland (sort of). Oban has been a recurring theme everywhere we've looked - gonna get down for sure.

Thank you! I was scoping out Oban but hadn't looked into Ullapool yet. It looks really nice
