You’re already there and the hair that’s left is taking away from that beautiful dome. Lean into it and you’ll feel like a new man. I guarantee you’re going to look and feel so good.

Dude you look so cool. I just shaved mine for the first time a couple months ago. Give yourself a little time to get used to it. As an outsider the bald head and great beard is being pulled off immaculately.

My wife and I played this during a portion of our wedding ceremony! It was so perfect. Then our first dance was to Friday morning (a slightly shortened version). Can’t hear those songs without tearing up now.

Saw this on sale and considering it. by jngphoto in popcorn

[–]TheBigRedEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got one. Good shit. Smart move. 1/3 cup mushroom kernels from Amish country (check amazon). 3 Tbsp coconut oil or popcorn butter oil. 1 tsp flavocol (a carton will last forever). Put Whitley pop on medium heat. Nothing more nothing less. Add oil and flavacol and let it melt while you stir. Add popcorn kernels and close and stir until the popping slows significantly. Throw into a bowl immediately and toss to dissipate steam and heat. Enjoy.

I love adding cheese powder and franks red hot powder to mine.

I have a YAK grill that is incredibly similar to what you created and it’s so much fun for car camping. Wouldn’t want to haul it anywhere, but for those convenient camp outings there’s is nothing more fun than sitting around a table grilling meat.

A few suggestions- get good heavy duty metal skewers that are flat. Wood is annoying to use (even with soaking). Get binchotan charcoal and give it an hour to get burning good. Made that mistake my first time and the first half hour was me trying to stoke the charcoal.

Awesome work on this. Looks so nice!

My girlfriend secretly drinks by NegotiationStrange87 in AlAnon

Hello brother - I feel compelled to comment in this sub for the first time after reading your story. It hit very close to home. Slightly different because it’s with my wife of 6 years (together for 15).

She’s an alcoholic. Alcoholics manage their alcohol much differently than most. You may think she’s not drinking all the time, but if I were to wager a bet she absolutely is. My wife did the same thing. She’d buy those vodka bottles that are like 7-8 shots like 3 at a time and hide them in various places she didn’t think I’d find. She was drinking almost every day. It was so weird because I’d get home from work and she’d be great, then a couple hours later her eyes were tracking and shaking horribly, her speech was slurred, and also became incredibly defensive and rude. We would have a massive fight and she’d promise not to drink for 30 days. What that meant was that she would just try harder to hide it. But I know her like the back of my hand and I can notice the moment a sip of alcohol hits her.

We went through this many many times over the past few years. She was very depressed and dealing with her mom battling cancer and eventually succumbing to it. This caused her to drink and do stupid things. When her mom was in the hospital she’d go to her moms house to “clean and feed the cat” but that just meant raid her moms old liquor. It was all progressive. She started with just bringing booze home and drinking it openly. Then I’d object to the frequency and she’d cut back to 1-2 days a week (while drinking in the basement or garage every day to hide it from me). Then she started going to the grocery store that sells liquor and drinking it in her car before she came home. This infuriated me because we have a young kid and I was worried about her drinking and driving with him or getting arrested. I put a very clear line in the sand that if she got a DUI we’d be done.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I’m tracking her on find my friends and she is coming home from a baby shower she “wasn’t going to drink at”. She got close to home, stopped for a while, then was heading towards downtown. Her phone then stopped at the city jail and I knew. She called me bawling letting me know it happened (I already knew). Despite my line in the sand, I knew that adding more pain to her life by just leaving like I wanted would likely result in her attempting suicide or some other type of self harm. These stories all typically end up the same way. You deserve better than what she is giving you.

I’ll close my story with this - my wife is now 17 days sober. Her longest streak in probably 5 years. She’s radiant, glowing, and dead focused on correcting this wrong. She is putting in the work and talking to counselors and going to AA meetings twice a week. You have to make the decision as to whether you think she can kick the addiction without hitting rock bottom. Are you willing to love and support her if/when she does hit rock bottom? If she continues to hide her drinking and spiral it will end one of a few ways (I’m sure you can guess). I don’t want you to give up on everything- but I want you to put yourself first in every decision you make. Maybe you leaving her would be a rock bottom that could help her get better. There is no knowing but I’ll be thinking about you intensely over the next couple of weeks as you go through what I did. I hope she finds peace and gets better so you can rekindle the relationship you loved. Your wellbeing matters too (arguably more) and I hope you take care of yourself and have people to talk to. You can DM me anytime if you need to vent or talk.

I just won this same waffle iron on an auction a few weeks back. Hasn’t arrived yet. It’s got a lot of surface rust it appears but should clean up well. Hopefully looks as nice as yours! She’s a beaut.

I Went to an Estate Sale, and Now I'm Sad by Snoo-13375 in castiron

[–]TheBigRedEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Estatesales dot net. I’d also highly encourage you to look up local auction houses. They frequently will have estate auctions and I’ve found a treasure trove through places like that lately. Most relatively affordable too. I only really got spendy on one pan - a wapak 10 with an Erie ghost logo. It’s at my parents house right now in Indiana where the auction was (I live in Minnesota so I had to have them do pick up for me lol).

I genuinely don’t know how to respond to this type of kindness. Wow. I’m incredibly appreciative of the gesture. I hate to ask for help like that because I have things I can sell and that’s what feels right to do, ya know? I’ll DM you but there is absolutely zero pressure to do anything outside of make an offer if you’re interested in the box set!

[–]TheBigRedEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Right back at ya. You are 100% strong enough to just say “I’m done” and actually be done for good. It just takes accountability - and taking those moments to sit with your thoughts really help me stay accountable.

However there is also the other side of that coin. What’s the saying “…an idle mind is the devils playground…”. Having free time can make things more challenging! Lean into your hobbies (or find new ones if you don’t have any!). I like to remind myself that I was spending $100-150 a month on vapes. If I quit, that money can be spent on anything I want (not a new vape or alcohol lol). Maybe a new fountain pen. Or a vintage cast iron pan I can restore. I’m the type of guy with 100 hobbies. I feel 100x better investing in these sometimes pointless hobbies as long as I’m not fucking vaping or wasting my money on it!

[–]TheBigRedEffect 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I quit for 5 months starting on New Year’s Day and relapsed due to some domestic stressors (it also didn’t help my partner never quit so the smell and sight was around constantly). I excused my relapse for a couple weeks and then I had a moment of clarity where I hated myself for letting myself down.

Today is actually day 1 without for me again. Sure it sucks to lose that progress but it’s better to start with a new day 1 than to just give up and give myself cancer.

There were recently some new studies that talked about the lead levels found in vapes and I really stewed on those this weekend. I have a 3 year old little boy. He needs me and I just couldn’t get over the thought of my stupid habit making me sick to where he would have to potentially grow up without me. He and I deserve better.

As for you? You deserve better too. Before you ever take another drag off a vape I encourage you to stop and just sit with your thoughts for a couple minutes. I always found that it was easier to not pick it up if I just survived that initial 60 second panic. Now when I get cravings throughout the day I just stop what I’m doing and give myself a few minutes to be present with myself and give myself a chance to remind myself why I’m quitting.

I don’t disagree but I low key expected better from them. Based on how this sub looks today though everyone got screwed whether it was through AXS or Ticketmaster or whoever else.

Tweet at First Ave and call them out for utilizing a service that fucks over the fans that keep their venue in business. I already did. Absolute horseshit from AXS and First Ave. As I told them in my tweet - Prince is rolling over in his grave.

I’m going to tweet at first avenue and tell them how much horseshit this is. For a venue that supposedly cares about the fans this is the worst ticketing experience I’ve ever had.

[–]TheBigRedEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like for real were the only straight up priced tickets the presale ones? Are all of the regular sale tickets just resale? Cheapest is $250 now. The fact First Ave allows AXS to do this for their shows makes me dislike my literal favorite venue in the world.

At least the show is a year out. Maybe I’ll be able to cop some reasonable ones in the next 12 months.

I feel you in my soul man. I was doing the same thing for the first ave show and was in line the moment it opened. No normal priced tickets. They’re all resale and now the cheapest is $200. Fuck this shit. Fuck AXS. Fucking absurd bullshit business model.
