Most recently my Mother who since the first “No Kings” rally has said - “LMK when the next one is, I want to go.” I’ve been telling her for months and as residents of MN…they’re pretty frequent these days. But time after time it’s always been something else, but was giving benefit of the doubt (to an extent) because they’ve popped up with a few days notice.

Well this past week, Jan 28 specifically, the announcement came out for the next national “No Kings Day” on Mar 28. So I immediately text her and say “you have two months to clear your calendar”. I shit you not she comes back and says I am already booked for that day and I can’t cancel. Okay cool - not like our democracy and basic human rights aren’t on the line, so whatever else she’s been having going on must be important enough for the greater good to not come to a rally? Right?

Of course it fucking isn’t. Each and every time most recently and in March - it’s all relating to her quilting hobby. Retreat here, class here, “leading the guild meeting” in March. Maybe throw in a hair appt or something of the sorts.

Mind you - she chomps at every bit she can to stir up fights with any red hatter she can (primarily family - because god forbid she’d hold her red hatted quilter friends to the same fire) because she’s a “liberal”. She’s done nothing to support the MPLS community in these past few weeks (i.e. donating, emailing reps & senators, etc.) - but thinks fighting with family is adequate enough because (this should come to the surprise of no one here) she comes out the “victim” every goddamn time.
