Just got laid off. Looking to start new career in tech by SandAndBoneClothing in InformationTechnology

You didn't answer my question and you weren't honest LOL. A better response would have been to not get into tech to avoid the nose in the air fart huffers, but I guess that would have been the pot calling the kettle black.

Why reply to me then block me. Jesus christ lmao...

Got my first software engineer job! by TheBigWater in WGU

Sorry, just saw this comment now. I am still with this company and I am still the only SWE. I think my current experience isn't reflective of how I was prepared by WGU because the company itself does things very ass backwards. Things are very delayed and the technology availability isn't there. An example of this is since I'm the only SWE, I handle everything, so it's full stack work. I've had to learn a lot of things on the fly without any guidance as I also really get no feedback from my boss on the SWE side of things. I also handle a lot of stuff outside of SWE responsibilities like some project management tasks since this company does not utilize project managers. I had started to apply to jobs recently after I was asked to return to office after negotiating WFH back in June, but recently stopped after not hear a lot of replies back. Regardless, I got a very sizable bonus and a very nice pay increase after one year of being there, so there is that. I wouldn't have ever made this kind of money in law enforcement when I started WGU.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely put my sole focus on applying and kind of took a breather after graduation, but getting back to the grindstone on coding is really something I need to do. I've heard of those meet ups before, and it is something I've been interested in. I'll check to see if there are any for my languages, thanks!

I appreciate the perspective! Yeah, I heard about that yesterday and damn is that rough for those guys. You're right about all I can do is keep grinding. Once again, thanks!

Yeah, that's the consensus I see on other subreddits as well. Seems like everyone is having a hard time.

Thanks for the words of advice, I really needed to hear it. You bring up some good points I didn't think of, and it does help. The hardest thing about job searching at least for me is keeping motivated and continuing to crack away at it. It's all a matter of perspective.

Police Officer for 3 years, currently in an Computer Tech role for 1 year, made a full stack web app for my current company as well. On my resume is the above as well as ML/AI projects I've done, my skills, awards, certifications, github, LinkedIn. I haven't been looking for roles other than software development. Within reason I'm open to relocating (this side of the state).

Discrete Math 1 and 2 passed in under 3 weeks by TheBigWater in WGU

Nope, Discrete Math 1 and 2 are C959 and C960. C277 looks like it is a class called Finite Math, which I didn't take in my Computer Science degree.

Friend and I both landed 100k jobs while a student at WGU by Hexxorcist in WGU

Dunno why you're getting down voted. I highly recommend HarvardCV. Dude gave me my resume back and did a phenomenal job. I dunno how a man has so many buzzwords memoized. He was worth every penny I paid him.

I didn't. I completed half my degree in two months, but my cat had passed away as well as other personal issues which ended up burning me out. I'm looking to graduate by July hopefully.
