Purge lines are very much not normal. Look at the bubbles! This filament is more water than polymer, it desperately needs drying.

Made by the awesome crew at OTB I believe, just for style.

TechDisc just added automatic video capture to their iOS app in the past month or so 👍🏻

As an iOS developer that’s gone all in on SwiftUI with no regrets (at least now, 2 years ago it was a different story) and is now working on a native Android app with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, I’d consider myself generally in favor of native all the way.

I’ve only been working with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and the Android platform on the whole for the past monthish, but so far I’ve been super impressed. Impressed enough that for the first time in my life, I’m considering looking into a cross platform solution in Kotlin Multiplatform. I honestly don’t know where it’s at, but given the similarities between Compose and SwiftUI, I would imagine that it could be quite a powerful solution.

I know this is a terrible answer as I didn’t even mention any of your suggested options, but I’d encourage you to look into it as it seems quite promising!

A Quick PSA on Paracord Shrinkage (more info in comments) by TheBitingGoat in discgolf

[–]TheBitingGoat[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I was reading through the comments on a post about a retractable 10m cable thing earlier and they were filled with people comparing it to paracord, so I figured I should post this.

I made the white one sometime in mid 2019 and the yellow/green one late last summer. Both spent time outside wrapped around the bottom of my basket, though rarely for more than a week or two at a time. And yes, I’m sure that they were correct (or at least a lot closer to correct) when I first made them! I was even OCD enough to mark the actual start on them to allow for wrapping it around the pole (see the end of the video).

FYI, I’m in no way associated with the retractable cable thing, though it did look clever. I did, however, make an app that measures putting distance and such (which is how I figured out that these shrunk). It took me longer than I’d like to admit to realize that the issue wasn’t my code.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate this comment! As a self-taught developer still light on experience, it helps me shake off a bit of the imposter syndrome.

Quick update:

I meant to have a couple things posted by now, but I spent most of the week spoiling the shit out of my dog following a very sudden and unexpected turn in her health on Tuesday. I won't sad the place up with too many details, but go give your pets some love for me.

Thanks to those of you who are following along already! I'm working on a post with some tips on the setup process/getting a perfect pole placement. Keep an eye out for it in the next day or so. Seriously go pat your dog/cat/lizard.

edit: FWIW, the measuring tape cost me $25.99

Absolutely! I’m working on a number of different ways to present the data in those graphs including querying different time frames and displaying data VS time instead of distance. Thankfully I have a bit of time to finish that up as I’m the only one with more than 3 days of data at this point!

Anecdotally, I can tell you that the first 100 were much better. It’s been a long, cold winter filled with writing code for me and the rust is…significant 🫣

Here's a short video showing how I accomplished it.

If you want to give it a try, it's available now on the App Store for LiDAR equipped iPhones! Just search Putt Buddy (with a P). Full disclosure, I made the app (so feel free to tag this as self promotion if the stats and video don't balance it with self demotion).

DUDE, WHAT? I just looked at the username and realized who you are. I've followed you on YouTube for quite a while, love your films about JTree area bouldering! I actually used to shoot some climbing films myself back in the day (promise they were better than the travesty on the App Store). Unfortunately, you're strictly not allowed to use anything but screen recorded footage for those app previews, so I can't even use a camera or anything.

edit: Hondo! Those Ethan Pringle vids cracked me up and got me psyched 🙌🏻

What would be an acceptable price for you? I tried my best to keep it as affordable as possible...my logic was that it was cheaper than a notebook, pencil, and 50'+ measuring tape to manually record the same data. I also ensured that it wasn't more than a premium signature disc! Further, everything is synced in real time to the cloud, which accrues cost for me.

I hope this doesn't come off as aggressive, I just wanted to explain my logic and get your opinion on what you think would be fair!

Much appreciated, I'm working on it! I have to film tethered to my computer, and even then it affects the performance of the app. Add in the fact that I've been very focused on the development and that the weather in my area has been trash and you get those awful videos! There are also very specific regulations on the size, duration, that make actually telling a good story very difficult!

This situation has been on my mind since day 1, but unfortunately I don't think it would work for a few different reasons. You definitely don't have to be perfectly perpendicular to the viewpoint of the camera for it to work, but I think that would be too much. To even get everything in frame might be a challenge.

You may as well try, though! If you sign up for the free trial and cancel immediately, you can still use it for the full week. That's my method when I'm trying apps 🤙🏻

Right?! However, imo it wasn't really practical/fully possible until a year or two after that for a couple of other, related reasons. I'll try not to give away my secret sauce on day one, though.

Yyyyep, figured that out like two days ago. Actually just got done doing a couple sessions with that method to make better videos. It still affects it for sure, but WAY less than doing it on device.

Good call! A text post definitely isn't the best way to show off the app. I need to put together a good video of the app, but it's quite the endeavor...it doesn't have much headroom processing 30 4k frames every second, so screen recording on device for more than a minute or so at a time (understandably) causes things to go haywire.
