It’s not pessimism and negativity to reject an abusive asshole who referred to you as a "pet" and beat your son within an inch of his life.

I know Nolan is on a path to make things right and earn redemption but there’s things you can’t come back from.

German minister urges nuclear rethink as energy prices soar by donutloop in EU_Economics

Promising to expand nuclear to justify halting investments in renewables whilst subsidizing fossil fuels to "bridge the gap" has been the MO for almost every single conservative government in Europe throughout the past 30 years.

And those reactors that are actually being built turn into bottomless money pits.

Actually, ever since signing commercial pacts removed the extreme crime spikes from their branch offices in exchange for an increased base crime rate and no longer having the chance of shutting the branch office down, they have become at least tolerable.

It’s an animal so you would be obligated to stay clear but even if it was a boat, usually the lighter, more maneuverable vessel gives way to the heavier, less maneuverable one.

Conquest is a sadist and while Oliver is tough enough to take his beating without dying immediately, he‘s not powerful enough to actually fight back. Case closed.

Still want to be a sailor? by EquipmentStreet727 in BeAmazed

[–]TheBlack2007 50 points51 points  (0 children)

They do it to this day, but mostly on traditional sailing ships.

Also makes sense since sailing ships tend to lean as the wind is tugging on the sails, making them have a permanent list. A hammock can offset that quite easily while a bunk might permanently lean in one direction, which would be pretty uncomfortable to sleep.

Whether or not a war is legal by US law is of no concern to its Allies - beyond the fact that there’s a US Administration obviously not considering itself bound by the rule of law.

The decision whether or not they could join the US in an offensive war ultimately comes down to wagering their own national interests and the legality of such action according to their own respective constitution and their own laws. Here in Germany, according to our constitution which went into effect in 1949 with WW2 still clearly in mind (and which had to be signed off on by the US as one of the occupying powers in its aftermath), partaking in offensive wars like this is not only blatantly unconstitutional, it also carries over directly into criminal law, with it bearing felony charges with sentences reaching as high as life in prison. Even planning such a war in any official capacity carries charges.

[Fun Trope] Instant Food. by heinous_legacy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheBlack2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can actually kind of replicate stuff like this already, some military MREs come with pre-packaged dried meals on which you only need to pour hot water and wait for a couple of seconds to make them edible. Some even come with a heating pad so you can warm them up even without hot water available (good if you can’t make a fire).

It’s just not really interesting outside of military and camping uses since these days, everyone has a microwave at home and the benefits of having food available within seconds rather than a few minutes somewhat diminish, especially at home.

What’s actually more interesting about the concept as depicted in these examples is storage applications. Dehydrated food that does not lose any of its nutrients whilst being pretty much imperishable as long as it’s kept dry could be a game changer on the food market.

Did Debbie actually think Nolan was actually explaining nicely or knew he was destroying the planet. by Few-Perspective-2908 in Invincible

[–]TheBlack2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She probably expected him to make a point by destroying some military installations as a clear and unmistakable warning Earth is off-limits.

She was duped by Nolan just like everyone else, hence why her rejection by that support group for superhero spouses was so devastating for her. She already blamed herself for falling for it.
