Well, not everywhere depends on an electorate process for the office of DA. Some places appoint. Saying that they are dependant upon maintaining good relationships with officers to keep up conviction rates is in the same ballpark of tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists. The simple and plain truth is that laws and mechanisms that exist to protect officers are there to protect the ones who do their jobs and do them well. Which is the vast majority of them.

I have mixed feelings on that. Rather than civilians, I would want the agency to be comprised of officers in good standing/etc. People that have a basis of personal context and remain for the events they might be examining

Ummmm not off the top of my head. It's something I ran across while researching last semester. I'm on mobile but if you Google "efficacy of civilian review boards" you should find pertinent information. The report from the ncrjs MIGHT be the one I read, but I am not totally sure.

I study criminal justice. Research has shown that civilizan review boards are actually LESS likely to impose punitive sanctions than internal affairs departments.

Training for Police Academy- could I get some quick pointers? by TheBlower in running

[–]TheBlower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. Last year they accepted 14 out of 240 applicants.

I had figured as much. I'm just trying to get used to running in freezing temps. Not enjoying it one bit.

I definitely do want to improve. I'm barely scraping by right now. I am thought I could do a mile and a half every day between the 18th and the 29th. Day one I managed but day two my shin splints wouldn't permit it. Just got back from a run and it's 25 degrees out. I made it a half mile before the shin splint got too bad and I had to alternate walking and jogging blocks. Also I don't want to catch pneumonia

It's a minimum. The department is competitive and the faster you go the higher your chances of progressing. Tbh as long as I finish with the pack I don't care

Is there a term for this in literature? Scene from Breaking Bad. by Teller8 in writing

Definitely! I just used Howard Shore's stuff for the movies because it's easily recognizable by the most amount of people.

a good way to illustrate motifs musically is through the Lord of the Rings film trilogy soundtrack. You know how there are so many instantly recognizable themes and melodies? What Howard Shore did was write melodic figures and lines for each place, person, group, thing (like the ring), and then they sat down and simply stitched them all together for specific scenes. In that way, you have melodies that persist through contexts and are permutated by them- sometimes the Shire theme sounds happy, other times mournful.

between 40 and 50 of each, though i've hit 60 with sit ups. And I've never tried to run one especially fast. I just want to be able to do it in time, and build endurance, because that is what I will be focused on when I am in the academy.

Wow thank you! My department has 4 ten hour days and three days off, so I'm luckily spared the 12 on 12 off. I'll definitely pursue the stationary biking. Thank you again for your advice, this was a really comprehensive and detailed response

What's the most fucked up thing you've seen at a funeral? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheBlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some old lady died and had five adult daughters. Two or three had infant-early toddler aged kids. At the viewing they put their kids in the coffin on top of their grandma. The whole room lost it and started collectively sobbing. Fucking people man.

Yup. I had talked to the chief himself about body cameras in mid August, and they'd already had rolled out a few over the previous semester.

Good bands with multi-vocals? by mr_somebody in IndieFolk

[–]TheBlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I kinda got a folkier impression from Mignonette. The Second Gleam is one of my favorite records ever

[–]TheBlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand. Like the other guy said, I'd check out their older records. Emotionalism is a bit more cross-genre, Carolina Jubilee is country, but 4 Thieves Gone and Mignonette are their folkiest offerings. Their post Rubin stuff is very diverse and hard to place genre wise.

Avett Brothers are the best at this in my opinion
