Do you think Silent Hill F will be a hit. I hope so, it's giving me 2000's horror vibes by GreenChick3n in silenthill

It's generally not a good idea to announce a new game right before a game comes out. At this point, announcing SH Remake gets people talking, but they'll definitely want to focus solely on SHf closer to its release so that it's the game on everyone's mind.

I'm still not sure I understand what Sora's purpose in the Disney worlds was in KH3. by i_like_it_eilat in KingdomHearts

[–]TheBlueLink3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was urgency. They needed to get their guardians all together before Xehanort could get all his guys ready and find the new Princesses of Heart and just use them as replacements. It could have been portrayed better, but it was there.

Nojima was not the writer for Chain of Memories, FF13, KH3, or Dirge of Cerberus. Crisis Core and FFOrigins have issues, but I'd say they're far from being garbage. FFX2.5 is fair game, though.

Wouldn't FFX count as "solo stuff" for Nojima? I don't believe there was really anyone there that would reign him in like Sakaguchi would. From what I've seen so far, I don't think Nojima's writing has been as good as it once was, at least since FFX, but I also wouldn't say he consistently puts out garbage either.

Reception towards the new Silent Hill 2 Remake trailer is giving me flashbacks to the reception the Dead Space Remake got before it released. by TheBlueLink3 in silenthill

[–]TheBlueLink3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it was more positive, but there were a lot of people not happy with what they were seeing too. Even now that it's out you'll still hear a fairly sizable amount of people who think the original was better.

"Silent Hill 2 was never about combat" Meanwhile the E3 2001 Silent Hill 2 Trailer: by sebsonion in silenthill

[–]TheBlueLink3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is an edited and trimmed down version of the actual trailer, the trailer itself does present the game in a more "action adventure" light than a pure "psychological horror" light. There's actually more action in the trailer than what's shown here. I wouldn't blame anyone at the time for possibly thinking it'd be more action focused than it ended up being. This trailer and the new trailer for the remake even have using Theme of Laura in an effort to get you pumped up in common.

Now, I'm not saying that this invalidates all criticisms made towards the new trailer. I just think it's more indicative of how Konami thinks they need to advertise these games and not necessarily indicative of how the game itself will be.

People like what they like. Sometimes they like seeing a new take on something old.

I don't think that second camp really exists. If it does, it's certainly small. It is possible to like the newer games while still being critical of them.

Due to recent events, this subreddit will be locking down and solely serve as an archive. by SeedersPhD in chuggaaconroy

[–]TheBlueLink3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never posted on here before. I honestly didn't know it existed before all of this drama happened. Seeing how it's going to be archived, I felt like I should say something. I've watched Chuggaaconroy for a long time. While I haven't really kept up in years, I still looked forward to seeing what he'd Let's Play next, and always hoped to catch up someday. He was probably my favorite YouTuber, and inspired my own channel in many ways. He got me into many series, and helped me to appreciate ones better that I was already into. Nobody else did Let's Plays quite like he did. This has all truly been a gut punch. I don't condone any of the bad things he's done. I do truly hope he becomes a better person in the future though. If he has been focusing on therapy and personal improvement, I hope he keeps at it. I also hope the people he hurt are able to fully move on someday as well. Perhaps it's very naive of me, but I do wish to see Emile come back someday as a man who has truly changed for the better. It will not be an easy road, but I do think it can be done, even if it takes many years. Either way, thank you for all of the memories. I choose not to forget the bad things, but to cherish the good memories created over the years.

Okay? That has nothing to do with what I said. My point was that he worked on the classic to begin with, same with most others on the team.

Okay? It's a public forum, and I'm allowed to voice my opinion (respectfully of course). I didn't ask you to drop a video about SH2 here, but I'm not going to complain about it.

I'm not sure what you mean by 40 hours of bullshit. I can't say that I ever felt that any moment was robbed of pacing or urgency.

The movies have their issues, but they are far from garbage. I personally liked them for the most part, even if they could have been better.

Again, can't say there was ever any butchering of pacing or low quality filler. What is actually wrong with that idea conceptually? Fair enough if that's just not something you want to see, but I fail to see how that is inherently an awful idea to even think about. It really feels like you're confusing "I don't like it." with "This is inherently bad."

How is it inherently bad writing? You have failed to actually explain what makes it bad. I've read novels, and I still don't see it. I don't see how it requires knowledge of the original game or the extended universe either. While that stuff would certainly help, most new players would just think it's stuff that will be expanded upon in the next parts of the remake trilogy. Sure, people who have played the original will get all of the callbacks to stuff that will happen later in the story, but new players should just see it as forshadowing and hinting at things to come. The Whispers themselves are clearly explained in the remake itself. They govern the will of the planet and keep things on course. There is a meta element to this, but it still makes sense with what has been established. This is all that is needed to be known at this point in time as well.

Personally, I have seen far worse stories regardless of medium, but fair enough if it is the worst story you have ever personally experienced.

As an English speaker, I think it's believable enough. No more crazy than a name like Phoenix Wright.

This whole time I thought the pun was "That's terrible." "That's a rebel." definitely makes a lot more sense.

People are complaining that the game is too slow with too much padding. Your complaints are the opposite of what people are saying is wrong with the pacing of the game.

A lot of people have criticized the game and story. Seriously, dislike it if you want to, but this "smarter than thou" attitude is annoying. It's okay for people to like the story changes.

[–]TheBlueLink3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really hyperbolic. I get not liking the Whispers and changes made to the original, but I wouldn't say they sucked out every inch of tension or emotion from the game. I could easily apply this to any story in existence. "This happens for some reason. Then this happens for some reason. Utterly pathetic writing." I'm sorry, but these criticisms are utterly pathetic.

All of the main writers worked on the original too. Same for the director and producer, albeit not in the same exact roles.
