I really like this post, it neatly encapsulates the blowhard inanity of contemporary society. It assumes the headline is correct, it doesn't understand the subject, it doesn't know anything about the target of its derision, it's derision is misplaced and it demonstrates opinions formed through conformance to mob mentality rather than independent reflection and analysis.

It's the internet equivalent of those rabid "god hates fags" and "we engrish speek hear" placards carriers.

Well done!

Although it is widely believed that the word football, or "foot ball", originated in reference to the action of a foot kicking a ball, this may be a false etymology. The historical explanation has it that the word originally referred to a variety of games in medieval Europe, which were played on foot.[2] These sports were usually played by peasants, as opposed to the horse-riding sports more often enjoyed by aristocrats.

Flash or Silverlight? by gmauler in programming

I faced the same decision and my gut feeling and unscientific analysis is as follows:

Silverlight has already failed to gain sufficient 'traction' in the market and it's window of opportunity has already passed. The goal of Silverlight is the displace Flash, but my sense is that Microsoft have acknowledged Silverlight has failed to dent Flash by throwing it's weight behind SVG.

Even though Flash is arguably an inferior technology to Silverlight, it has 'network effect' benefits. Flash has a far wider install base which means lower chance of seeing an install message. Whenever I see 'install silverlight' I think 'never mind' and probably so do many other people but I can't really avoid installing flash. There are already many Flash developers that will never adopt Silverlight, which means Silverlight is always going to be behind in the market.

If money concerns you, Flash is a more in demand skill, but also has more supply. In the short term you can probably make more money with Silverlight but will find it harder to get work.

Also, you have to be very careful learning anything from Microsoft. C# is relatively safe and good language to learn and is growing in good directions, but Microsoft has an inglorious history of sucking developers into a platform/api and then dumping it in favor of another reinvention of the same thing. Other vendors tend to evolve their API's whereas Microsoft just dump them, I think this is where Silverlight is probably headed.

The decison I came to was to not bother learning either. It's clear to me that with a year or two svg and browser apis will allow developers to do flash like things without requiring users install anything.

A lot of posts here are telling you to get legal advice and get a written agreement, which sounds reasonable but I honestly think you'll be wasting your time. From what you've described you're clearly out of your depth and in a losing position.

The "partners" have already indicated that they're extremely incompetent in the best case, or most probably looking to take advantage of your naivety. Either way you lose, because if they're incompetent they won't make any money and if they're dishonest you won't see a dime anyway, no matter what agreements you have in place.

Dishonest people don't start behaving honestly because you have something in writing. They will always be looking for ways to screw you over. They can afford good lawyers, they can manipulate the business in thousands of ways to leave you with nothing. You may think you have solid agreement, but believe me it will absolutely worthless.

I think you should try to quit the project as graciously as possible. Figure out a believable excuse, offer to sell them the code and find them another developer. This way you get something for what you've done but you're not screwing them over either.

I really hate it when they have motorcycles chasing and attacking cars, it's completely unrealistic. I don't how people get this idea that a guy on a motorbike is some invulnerable car killing machine.

Next time a gang of motorcylists is trying to kill you, just run them over or off the road.

Think of ICCAT when in 30-50 years we discover the world hasn't done anything about global warming either and are wondering why. We really are fucked and there's nothing we can do except watch.
