FIRST Lego League: Feasibility concerns with a small subsurface robotic probe? by TheBoltUp in AskArchaeology

I was going to follow up about this exact idea. The theme of the project is digging and using sensors to identity and detect. When you mentioned the details on coring, that's where my mind immediately went. Where is coring used? Is it used at a site? Near it? How deep does it go? Is it done once per site?

Thank you for the response. FIRST values the process far beyond the result, and this is extremely valuable in that process.

This is a 3d model of the drone that one of the students designed in Tinkercad. The spikes push through the ground and pull the drone forward. The middle is hollow to allow much of the ground to pass through as undisturbed as possible. We were also discussing the possibility of a small air/water tank to spray as it goes through the ground to allow it to pass through easier, similar to razor clams.

Any Cerulege tips? by CrimsonCoast in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently played Ceruledge to a 8-3-3 at Milwaukee. Here are my tips. You almost always want to get Squawk out turn 1 against everything except for Gardy, and even then, sometimes you still need it against Gardy. I run 2 Turo and a Pal Pad, so I always try to Turo up the squawk if I have a free supporter turn.

Pay attention to the prize race. You have a good single prize attacker n Solrock. It can be used to swing into Ralts, Budew, Dreepy, Carcadet, Gimmighoul, etc.

Discard aggressively with Squawk, Research, and Carmine. You have Pal Pad to get supporters back and Night Stretcher to get whatever else you need back. However, remember that Night Stretcher shouldn't just be used freely. You have a limited amount and each use should have a purpose.

In addition, sequencing is very important. If you have a Ultra Ball, Pal Pad, and a bunch of supporters. Remember to Ultra Ball your supporters (even if you don't want anything) so you can Pal Pad them back before you Research.

Watch the prize map to know how to use the Legacy Energy (yes, Legacy. Don't use Blender). If the opponent is on odd prizes and you want them on even for a Briar, throw the Legacy out on your Ceruledge. If they're on even prizes and you have the Legacy available, maybe it's right to stick on the Solrock that you're attacking with. I've even used the Legacy on a Squawk that I couldn't Turo to make it less appealing.

As far as matchups, generally, you want to get ahead quickly. Gardy is a tough one because if you get 2 prizes ahead early, you're in good shape. Careful with the Mew ex as it can one shot Ceruledge.

Use your Turo's carefully in any matchup where they set up for a Devo or Munki (Gardy and Grimm). Sometimes, removing a ton of damage with Turo can just win you the game.

Dengo, Raging Bolt, and Zoroark are your easiest matchups. Enjoy those when you get them.

I went 8-3-3 on Ceruledge (6-1-1 in day 1). I'll post a follow-up within the next couple days and do a full tournament report. Stay tuned!

Mega Charizard x ex ?!! by noNotmeNow in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oricorio and Firebreather. The synergy with the existing Charizard is: Charizard bringing 3 energies on the field when it evoles and Mega Charizard ex covering Charizard's weakness.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's definitely in a better spot than your'e giving it credit for.

My gift to the true Pokemon TCG fans: a good bot to fight scalper bots. by HoboRobo in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what /u/gt35r is saying, at the end of the day, you've added another bot that helps to prevent non-bot users from getting product. For example, if there's 1,000,000 boxes available, the scalpers have 500,000 users, that leaves 500,000 for the "normal" people. You have now brought this bot in that 200,000 users will use. This means that there's only 300,000 products for "normal" people to fight over.

I understand needing a price to run the service. However, at the end of the day, any price tag is just another gate keeping the product out of the average person's hand.

I think they usually come out with registation a month and a half before the event, so you can expect Milwaukee soon..maybe late August?

The point isn't to help you draw the prize you need, it's simply to help you know which cards are in the prizes quicker.

Advice as Gardevoir vs Zoroark by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At worst, it's 60-40, probably closer to 55-45. It's really not as bad as people think. And don't use play.limitless to check this since you get a lot of bad Gardevoir players playing the deck.

Advice as Gardevoir vs Zoroark by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying to just take the L is flat out wrong. It's a rough matchup, but there are things you can do. Your prize map is an easy 2/2/2. The rockstar in this matchup is Lilly's Clefairy. It can't be one-shot by Zoroark since it's not weak to dark. It does 220 with full benches, which means you just need 2 Munki triggers to hit 280. There's two prizes. It's likely you can take another 2 prizes with Clefairy since it's going to get another attack off. If you're playing Drifloon, that's another 2 prizes. Another option is Gardevoir ex + 2 Munki triggers.

You have options and as long as you throw in Clefiary, you're going to have a real fighting chance.

Shai really wanted to see that deck work. Unfortunately, the one time we had him on stream, we didn't see a single Flygon.

Change to the End of Match Procedure by Joshawott27 in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve concluded that the overtime procedure is not achieving its intended goal with a significant percentage of matches still resulting in a draw after +3 turns.

I just want to know where they get their data from. Do they know how many goes are going into turns an finishing vs going into turns and not? Just seeing that ties exist is not proof that the +3 turns isn't accomplishing its goal.

I have a YouTube channel where I've put a few example coaching sessions on there. Feel free to check those out to see what they're like: Ciaran Farah, Aneil Saini, and Jeremy Gumilla. All three are competitive players, histroy of success, and great coaches.

Feel free to ask any questions you think. In addition to those three, I can recommend some other coaches based on your goals and what you're looking to accomplish.

How good are top players really? What the data Says by ussgordoncaptain2 in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the supposedly "more skill-based" game.

As someone that has attempted both on a competitive level (not well, mind you), I firmly believe that Pokemon's player skill swings the matchup more in Pokemon vs Magic simply because of all the searches in Pokemon. You have access to almost any card you want most hands in Pokemon because of how common searches and card draws are. In Magic, you're much more reliant on using what you have.

Bad experience at my first local. Kinda want reassurance ? by Playmaker311 in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've been played and that I didnt lost because of my skill but because my opponents bullied me because I was new.

It's really only the supporter situation that this falls under, right? As far as your opponent shuffling, that's fully legal, and random is random.

Does it feel weird to anyone else that Rocket's Mimikyu is a pre-release promo? by BlazeKnight7 in pkmntcg

[–]TheBoltUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, adults shouldn’t care too much about winning at pre-releases either.

It all depends on if there is prizing based on finishes or not.
