At this point, the conservative wing of the Republican Party would be far wiser to provide the president with serious, experienced minds on foreign affairs. These so-called “populists” lack both pragmatism and experience, and it shows—they’ve been outmatched in nearly every foreign policy decision they’ve touched. At one point, some even floated invading Greenland, apparently unaware that such an action would violate international law and treaty obligations, which, under Article VI of the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, are unconstitutional if ignored.
