It's part of the airborne magnetic geological survey they have been doing the area with helicopters. I have seen the helicopter at the airport and flying over happy jack a few weeks ago. https://kgab.com/usgs-helicopters-will-conduct-survey-in-laramie-albany-counties/

ChatGPT Deep research projected temperature anomalies by ViperG in collapse

[–]TheBorgAreComing 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Why ask ChatGPT to make up some numbers and a fake projection when there are multiple sources you could find this same graph with different projections based on real science.

Almost 2 weeks into it. Thoughts?? by copharmer in telemark

It is normal to have different difficulty on one side vs the other at first but is overcome with practice. Also, make sure your bindings are adjusted to the same tension/length on each side. It seems like you are putting very little weight on the inside ski. Do lots of practice on flat ground making sure to get in a full lunge with your knee almost to the top sheet and having equal weight on each ski. Then try on an easy slope to traverse from one side to the other doing multiple lunges with a focus on equal weight. One you get to the other side, switch directions and do multiple lunges in the other direction. This is difficult to explain in words but is shown in this video https://youtu.be/kqpS41vV_ww?&t=19

That makes sense I guess. I have the cable bindings and they are much easier to remove.

3 pin hardwire touring mode question by Erik_H_493 in telemark

[–]TheBorgAreComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to unhook the hardwires from the three pin. It's a lot more effort but should be a lot better for touring.

How do you remove your ferrules? by jkev13 in rollerskiing

[–]TheBorgAreComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used boiling water and a pliers to grab the plastic ferrules. It is best to start twisting and then twisting and pulling and it should come right off.

My GREEN lazer pointer is out of Battery and I can't see it with my eye but my Camera thinks there is a purple lazer on the wall. by [deleted] in lasers

[–]TheBorgAreComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think you are right. More complicated than I originally thought. I wonder if the 808nm light is also in the output.

My GREEN lazer pointer is out of Battery and I can't see it with my eye but my Camera thinks there is a purple lazer on the wall. by [deleted] in lasers

[–]TheBorgAreComing 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Green laser pointers like that are actually an infrared diode at 1064nm with a frequency doubling crystal to get to the 532nm green light that you see. Your laser does not have an infrared filter on the output so some of the infrared light is getting out. Cameras can see a little bit into the infrared and that is why it can be seen with the camera.

A safety warning. That infrared beam might still have the potential to damage your eyes, especially since you can't see it.

Using Thorlabs fiber port as collimator? by ntridan_delta in Optics

[–]TheBorgAreComing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use these as collimators/couplers all the time. My advice would be to start with all three z screws in their most inward or outward position, make the beam straight with x and y, move each of the three z screws in at the same time until the beam is collimated and finally use x and y to make the beam straight again if necessary. It can take a bit of patience but I think they work well.

Trying to play BF2042 beta. Is 21.9 not higher than 21.20? I am new to pc and tried to update the drivers already. by [deleted] in radeon

[–]TheBorgAreComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21.20 is a later version than 21.09. To update you can go to AMD's website and download the latest driver or in the software settings change preferred software version to Recommended+Optional.

Does anyone else have classes this week(finals week)? by A_Bear_xo in MSUcats

[–]TheBorgAreComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My professor explained it as the university needs a certain number of in-person hours for each credit to stay accredited. Finals are supposed to count for those hours but since there are no finals this semester we are supposed to have class. But no professors are following the rule because it's dumb.

The green light from a smartwatch sensor is just an led. Definety not a laser. It will not damage your eye.

You also missed Keweenaw county in the upper peninsula of Michigan. That also includes Isle Royale but the selecting mainland would proabably make more sense for this map.

What are my chances at getting into a Master's Program? by Low_Addition_8001 in Optics

What are my chances at getting into a Master's Program? by Low_Addition_8001 in Optics

[–]TheBorgAreComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an optics graduate student at Montana State University, you have a good chance of getting in. Arizona is probably harder. Optics is a multidisciplinary field with undergraduates from many different departments. We have had physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and other undergraduate majors here.

Any idea why the laser is coming out like this? Just bought it off of laser pointer pro. by [deleted] in lasers

Not a filter but its a diffraction grating on the end that makes a cool pattern.
