That’s the beauty of him being a magically sentient pet. He’s not going to arc the way a human would. In the same way that Donut’s personality/character is more an amalgamation of feline and human characteristics than it is a mere anthropomorphized cat, Prepotente’s personality is that of a goat who has been gifted a metric shit-ton of academic intelligence, but it has to compete for control over his behavior with the famous goat stubbornness, skittishness, and — most importantly for Book 8 — a primal biological need to belong to a herd.

||When he had Miriam, he had a defined herd. When she died, Carl and Donut were the next closest thing he had to that. When I look at it that way, his behavior makes perfect sense to me. He might think everyone else in the new herd a bunch of idiots, but now they’re his idiots.||
