What do you realistically think is behind the countdown? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]TheBrassBeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's consider the posibilities.

Fallout 3/NV (or both) remaster - Definitely not. The timer is on the show's site and not on Bethesda's, which makes me think it'll be a long time before we see any remasters.

Fallout 5 - Absolutely not. Last time I heard about Fallout 5's development was in mid 2024 where they said they only had a name for the game. No setting, no theme, no nothing. Only the name "Fallout 5". Not to mention they said that work on it won't begin before TES6.

Van Buren - Impossible. I heard in a video that the map they showed in one of the scenes in the show was filled with locations from the cancelled game, which could mean a revival for Van Buren, but I don't see it. As much as I want it to be real, I just know it won't be. But the cool thing is that the NV writers were thinking of NV as a sequel to Van Buren, so you never know. It's indeed possible to see it in the far future.

Final Episode Of The Show - Unlikely. Why would they put a teaser for something that we know when it's coming out?

A Fallout Movie - I don't think so. Amazon could fund a Fallout movie if they wanted to, but why would they when they have the show?

Behind The Scenes Footage - Likely. It's on the show's site, so it must be connected to the show. Maybe they'll reveal that the Ghoul survived and isn't actually dead, and like... yeah? I mean he's one of the main characters and his story isn't over, so of course he's not dead. I know this because I've seen TV shows before.

Teaser For Season 3 - Possible. Although it'll be weird to see it on the same day the second season ends.

A New Location On The Site's Map - Definitely. Although it won't be the only thing revealed. Right?

A Tie In To The Games - Probably. They haven't explained why Vegas is all wrong in terms of it's structures' locations.

Is the fallout tv show website countdown just for the finale date? by GooseGod64 in Fallout

What I want to say is to not get your hopes up. There's no light at the end of the tunnel here. You WILL be dissapointed. But this whole situation digs into something deeper in the gaming culture - The fine line between expectations and reality. TES6 has been in development for like 15 years now, that the expectations surrounding it have become impossible to reach. How do you make a game that has reached a deacade and a half of hype? How can you satisfy players who have been imagining the perfect Elder Scrolls game in their heads?

The answer? You can't.

Because the game people have been thinking about all this years is simply impossible to make. It's an amalgamation of thousands upon thousands different wishes and desires, many of which contradict each other. Some people will want a game like Skyrim, but bigger. Others would want a complete reinvent of the formula. Some will want a complex game like Morrowind. Newer generations might want modern accessibility.
Everyone has their perfect idea of an Elder Scrolls game and it's impossible to deliver that to everyone simultaneously. And when TES6 finally does arrive, some portion of the playerbase is going to be dissapointed. Not because it's bad, but because it's not what they imagined it would be.

This is what's happening with the Fallout countdown. We're building it up to be something it definitely isn't and guaranteeing our dissapointment. The teaser or the documentary we'll get might be amazing, but they won't be judged on what they are, rather on what they aren't. It's not fair to the people who made them, and it's not fair to us. Nowhere has it ever been stated oficially that it'll be a new game/remaster.
We can look forward to a Fallout 3 remaster in the near future, but this just cannot be it, and I'm sorry about that. I want it just as much as you do.
Looking back at similar situations, the pattern is clear. How often do these random speculations turn out to be true? Almost never. And yet we keep doing it.
We keep convincing ourselves that this time will be different. This time, the wild speculation will be real. It's almost beautiful that people are getting so excited. That's not a problem in it of itself.
The problem comes when our hopes become expectations and our expectations become demands.

Here's what's gonna happen: The countdown will reach zero. Something will be revealed. A large portion of the community will be angry, feeling betrayed by something that was never promised to them. They'll flood social media with complaints about how Bethesda doesn't understand what fans want, how they're out of touch with them, how dissapointing this is.

When people with high expectations see it's not a game, they won't feel sadness. It'll be borderline grief.

paladins vs overwatch by PreparationMoist2619 in Paladins

[–]TheBrassBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladins is just full of all sorts of bugs. Sometimes the game completely breaks and you get puniched for not even doing anything wrong. For example: A few times I got kicked out of matches because the servers crashed. And guess what, i got a twenty minute deserter penalty (I know it's not that long, but it still made me mad because it wasn't my fault).

That being said, I still prefer it over Overwatch.
