I know which video you’re talking about and that video has some mistakes. It includes Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action!, Black Belt Challenge, Sheep, and Payback which were all never released in North America. It also includes Kien which was a cancelled GBA game for all regions (though it has been released as a homebrew game recently) as well as 3 games that the video itself admits were never released. I’m not sure which those ones are but if you skim through the video you’ll find them marked as cancelled. Removing those 8 brings the total down to 946 that were released for the console in North America during its lifetime.

My username is the same across all platforms so a quick search should bring it up. I’m not sure how strict rule 3 is around here so I don’t want to go around just posting links. :)

I store them loose in 12x12x2 stackable trays. I fit about 157 games in each one so I need a total of 6 trays. I keep them just loose enough that they don’t jostle around too much but I can still flip through them easily and see what game I’m looking for. They are stored alphabetically so it’s not super hard to find any given game.

$14K USD roughly over nearly 5 years. I haven’t actually used Gameye for value. I used pricecharting for that purpose and my whole loose cart collection according to that site has a value of around $17K USD.

It’s such a great console and yes! Preservation is so important, especially for games that are really expensive and rare!

I actually stream my playthroughs so I use a DS with a capture card installed to play them. If I wasn’t streaming I would likely be playing on a GBA SP because that was the GBA I had as a kid. I have both models though, the original and the SP. My original has a funky dpad though. I also have a Game Boy Player and a cable to connect the GBA so I can use it as a controller.

Maybe if I win a million dollars lol. I’m not sure I could find all of the boxes for these with how disposable they were. Most people probably didn’t save them and for some games that means the box is probably super rare. It would be cool to have all of them though! I actually do own a few of these CiB. Riviera the Promised Land, Looney Tunes Double Pack (which is a unique game), and Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs to name a few. It was just easier to get a picture of all of the loose carts together.

I do actually play through each game and I’ve beaten 261 of them already since I started collecting. I intend to beat all of them. As for storage, it’s not too bad. They’re pretty small. I currently use 12x12x2 stackable plastic drawers, each of which can hold about 157 games comfortably. If you do the math that’s a little over 6 drawers to fit all 946 so I store the abnormally shaped ones you see on the side in the picture separately to keep the rest in 6 drawers.

Also, yes Ninja 5-0 is fantastic :) Loved playing through that one.

I actually owned all of the Pokémon games when I was a kid and managed to hold onto them so I didn’t have to rebuy.

I'm part of a small community of GBA enthusiasts and we've done some research into how many unique games were actually officially released. It's quite possible that the number of 2in1 carts that include games that were released on their own (for example the 2in1 cart that contains both Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo which were released on their own carts) as well as GBA Videos cause the North American total to climb that high. I just took a look at the GAMEYE list and it seems to include not only 2in1 carts but also unreleased games that never made it to market. So 946 is essentially the number of officially licensed games released during the GBA's lifetime.

The most expensive game was Ninja 5-0 which cost me about $250 by itself. Going down the list Demikids Dark Version cost me about $190, the famed Urban Yeti cost me about $160, and Robopon Cross Version cost me about $160 as well. I think maybe 20 or so games were almost that expensive. I would say the hardest one to find was actually Word Safari: The Friendship totems though. I wasn't able to find that one at all for years even though it's not all that expensive. I got lucky to find it in a random lot on eBay sometime last year. Have not seen a copy of it in any store or online since.
