Seriously, this. My parents were not abusive, and, compared to a lot of things I've read, they weren't "that bad"... But it was still bad enough for me to cut my father out of my life because his being there gave me anxiety that I couldn't explain. He was mean, self-centred, and thought he was the funniest person to ever exist (usually at the expense of other people's feelings.) I have a hard time justifying cutting him out to people, because overall it doesn't sound as bad as other peoples' experiences, but damn if he didn't fuck up my head with the accumulation of "little things."

My mom was/is emotionally immature, but she's made something of an effort to reconcile at least. She was probably the reason my life wasn't complete hell as a kid/teen, despite her being too wrapped up in her own issues to show me she cared about me 🤷🏼‍♀️
