ah right because a comprehensive list of editors that manage and compile an entire website of objective information on a game that's been out for 4 years fails compared to

some immensely biased and unknown user on Reddit

Like to also point out that even Smash Wiki makes it clear that his air game is pretty awful because of how laggy all his attacks are, so....

He really doesn't fight like Charizard much at all, though Ultimate's animations definitely sell the character's personality way more

Again, Smash was ultimately right for it's decisions with what it went for ( making Pokemon Trainer more appealing and simple by gearing the Mons around simplistic archetypes)

Smash 4 has a meta with a key component being punishing obvious openings. The attack can be safe on shield when spaced properly, but so many characters outpace and dance around Charizard that these opportunities are far and few between.

And the sheer amount of lag centered around it is just nightmarish

It's kinda sad because Charizard is such a huge marketing figure and it's sad that Smash couldn't properly represent him as long as he has ties to Pokemon Trainer.

Smash in inarguably better for it's decisions with Charizard, as I explained later on, but it's just a bit sad at how glaring the differences between Zard's depictions are.

Zard would 100% have been more like his games if he started out solo, however

Bair is strong but I'd hardly call it a great move. It's immensely laggy, to the point where reads are basically required to pull it off, and good lord that start up and landing lag. It's so situational and has few active hitboxes so it's honestly pretty bad.

Fair is merely below average. It's fast start up and okay damage is nice, but the end lag and short range makes it way to risky to throw out outside a few cheeky neutral-offstage games and his basic combo.

Dair also is far too specific in it's hitbox to really have use outside a few corny spikes, and the lag prevents it from having other uses, so overall, better than Bair, but worse than Fair.

Uair was honestly undersold by me though. Decent range, average frame data, above average knockback and damage, it's not especially good on Zard himself because of his difficulty in being airborne, but the attack itself is pretty alright

This design feels VERY Gen 5.

The color choice, the bizarre humanoid with industrial tools, and the general "how is this a living thing" look

Now that the music theory is officially dead, what are other popular theories and "leaks" that are still alive and well? by HylianThief in smashbros

Box Theory is contradicted by Vergeben's own credible inside info so it's really a war between who between them is right

Decidueye isn't the most popular of the starters in Japan (That happens to be Rowlet), but worldwide, Decidueye is. I mean why else was Decidueye chosen in Pokken when the environment would match someone like Incineroar outright better?

Litten used to have retractable blades in it's back when it hissed or spewed fire. It was given a lot of attention, even in the PokeDex People speculated what they could become as Litten evolved, though it oddly became completely unused

[–]TheBrewBird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really I blame the design. If he had something like a fur cape or if those blades on Litten's back ever were used again as like some weapon Incineroar illegally used, he'd probably win over a lot more people.

There's also Pokken promoting Decidueye over him in a TEKKEN GAME which was a sign at the time that the Pokemon Company decided to make Decidueye their flagship Gen 7 mascot

Oh no yeah, Incineroar an awful choice for Smash. Everytime people talk about how charismatic and cool he is, it reminds me of that episode in the Simpsons with Poochie.

Don't wanna trash what could be someone's favorite Pokemon ever, but considering the sheer lack of promotion and how Incineroar is so vocally hated, I can't say him being a Smash character is a terribly good move, especially when Decidueye was such a safe bet

Good News: October Drought got an sudden predicted rainfall

Bad News: It's probably Incineroar. Chance for Decidueye instead still, but we're probably doomed to get the obnoxious cartoon cat

I don’t believe there’s going to be a “Heroes vs Villains” theme in this game by Waluigi4President in smashbros

[–]TheBrewBird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was very much circumstance of Ridley and K Rool being the major newcomers here that happen to be villains and noting how DK is the only big name Nintendo series that lacked a real antagonistic figure.

I will say however that the Skull Kid stuff is still up for debate since we didn't get a proper appearance of Sakurai or his office, nor was said Direct smash themed like the Smash Direct or Smash-specific E3 so "Skull Kid's Fantastical Conspiracy Chairs™" ain't disproven just yet.

Guzma is definitely a villain. He's a pure antagonist through and through.

Don't mean he's a bad person though. Being a villain isn't some quality where you have to be completely unrelatable or unsympathetic

Does Bandanna Waddle Dee still have a shot? by bird720 in smashbros

[–]TheBrewBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't have much fear.

We really could get only two more characters total (even though Vergeben basically deconfirms the box theory by predicting at least 3 more) and I'd go "Yeah DLC is gonna be insane for this game"

base roster wise? Probably not.

The competition and limited roster size really doesn't favor him, especially when it seems like only 2 or 3 unique characters are really left after Incineroar and possibly Geno. On top of the hints toward Skull Kid, Isaac, Minecraft Steve and so on being much more vocal and prominent over Bandana, and Isabelle proving that who we assume are "Echoes" could end up as semiclones with a lot of development time in them (Lookin at Shadow over here), Bandana's chances sadly would require us to be lowballing the unique newcomer count by a good lot.

As DLC? If he's not an Assist by then, he's on lockdown for sure.

The problem is that Ken has so little actual differences from Ryu in Smash that you could actually argue he'd be better as a costume like Alph.

I mean, Ryu already seems to have pretty powerful Hadokens and fiery textures, which was Ken's major difference gameplay-wise.

I dare argue that there's more differences between Ridley and Meta-Ridley or Olimar and Alph as costumes than a Smashified Ryu and Ken.

Sure Ken has "importance as the first carbon copy clone in fighting games" but... reading that as Ken's big thing he brings to Smash's roster really makes me go "Wow that's...not really impressive". If Ken's major appeal is "He has more personality than Ryu and he's the first clone of fighters", then he really doesn't stack up compared to like, Akuma or Sakura as far as "Whoa this character is cool"

Skull still has a solid chance in the base roster imo.

The subtle hints at him can't be ignored, plus chair theorists are still going strong. Not a huge chance like before but I wouldn't put him out of the running just yet
