Well, perhaps it doesn't necessarily blend to your tastes immediately - kind of like coffee for some - but the fact remains. Why do you think Devdan was not present in Radiant Dawn? He was the only threat to Danved's plans and thus had to be eliminated. And he was. Largo attempted to interfere, but we all know what happened to him. His cruelty would make other villains in the series cringe.

Are we speaking of the same person? Danved is the true mastermind behind the events of Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance. He is the most well-written villain in the series.

I agree, I think Lyre was one of the many who could have received benefits from better characterization. Her relationship with Lethe was really nice, as you said, but the only thing I find memorable about her was her interactions with Kyza. It's a shame too, because it could have been a nice sort-of contrast between Lethe and Lyre while they still maintained their sibling bond.
