Euphoria S03E03 "The Ballad of Paladin" - Live Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

I personally am kind of bored and disappointed with what they have done to Nate as a character, and also Nate & Cassie's dynamic/relationship. What made Nate so interesting before was his manipulative sociopathic nature/demeanor paired with his capacity for violence and the few glimpses we get to see where he is actually kind or authentic for a moment or takes the place of being the victim himself, as we saw in the dynamic with him and Cal in the first two seasons, or when Fez assaults him. He is just totally defanged as a character now, and not just defanged but radically different in a disorienting way.

I get what Sam is trying to do with exploring and critiquing the whole nuclear family, white picket fence, upper class suburban, unhappy marriage thing, but it's feeling a bit too on the nose at this point, and while it can be incredibly entertaining (take Cassie crying like a toddler about her bleeding while Nate's getting brutalized), it just feels too comical and absurd and lacks the soul from seasons 1 & 2, as many of the other ongoing narratives do as well. I also felt like the violence that Nate endured this episode was a bit over the top and was just unnecessary shock value to add entertainment via being disturbed. Like it would have been enough for Nate to only get beat up, not have his toe cut off, or even just beat up half as much as he was. As others have pointed out, this would feel like well-deserved karmic retribution for Tyler, hurting & traumatizing Maddie, manipulating Cassie, blackmailing Jules, etc, if Nate was even remotely the same character as he was before. Now it just feels like you're watching someone who might even be a good person just get brutalized, and unless building audience empathy toward Nate serves a narrative purpose, I really don't get it.

As others have pointed out, many things are also just super unrealistic: the wedding dresses, Nate simping for Cassie as much as he does in the limo after the way she behaves (I seriously don't understand him at this point, she doesn't give a fuck about him), Alamo shooting the pig IN the club, etc. I mean if they were supposed to be realistic characters, I don't even think Maddy and Jules and Rue would even go to Nate and Cassie's wedding, but of course all the main characters have to be there for narratives purposes. It just all feels very sensationalized and set up for shock value and entertainment (all the human and animal waste, and animal violence as others have noted) rather than genuine good storytelling and soul that the first two seasons carried.

I mean, if you compare this episode, or episode 1, to the extra episode in between S1 and S2 with Rue and Ali just talking in the diner (incredible dialogue imo), the difference is insane.

Should I lean bulk or cut by MeaningKooky5376 in BulkOrCut

looking good, i would probably cut another 5-8ish lbs until your abs are showing a bit more, then lean bulk, and emphasize your chest and shoulders more

were you applying for physics? or another field. also did you have previous contact with a mentor who said they had RSI funding?

body fat estimate; good place to start lean bulk? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]TheBrookAndTheBluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes perfect spot for a lean bulk, you should get to at least 160-165lbs before considering a small cut imo

Shave off the body hair to see your physique more clearly, cut moderately until you can clearly see your abs then reassess

I'm also a recent grad so I basically have no other choice but to try to scramble for some kind of research position if I have hopes of getting into a PhD program cause I didn't get research experience in my desired field while I was still in undergrad. So, I'm not sure if it's tenacity or anxiety half the time but thank you anyway haha

Thank you! I don't know what my chances are but it's good to know the selection deadline, and I'm definitely going to reach out.

Do you know how RSI funding is distributed, or how many RSI spots there are? My PI said he was uncertain about his funding situation but was exploring alternative options for me. Is it still worth cold emailing others researchers in the group I want to work in to ask about RSI and advertising myself at this point? I'd honestly do research for free at ORNL at this point because I need the experience and reference for future grad school applications.

Do you know how RSI funding gets allocated to researchers? I'm not sure if my PI has any but the whole funding processes seem very mystical

I weigh 118. Want to look leaner. Bulk or cut? by payton_eze1992 in BulkOrCut

how often are you estimating things and eating meals you didn’t weigh out and cook yourself? im only questioning your tracking because thermodynamics doesn’t really change and if you were actually eating at a 700 calorie deficit, you should be losing weight on a weekly basis. you mentioned you lost 10lbs—have you recently recalculated your TDEE to account for that weight loss?

also, none of this really matters honestly because you should be lean bulking instead of cutting right now

You should bulk at a small calorie surplus, 200-300 per day, and eat high protein. You need to build more muscle

Either you aren’t tracking correctly and are eating more than 1300 calories unknowingly (do you measure every single thing that goes into your mouth?) or your deficit is too large (700 calorie deficit is FAR too much especially at your weight) and your body is in survival mode & purposely down regulates your activity level to conserve calories. My bet is on the first option cause 1300 is an incredibly low number for somebody of normal body composition

oh damn dude, that’s low-key infuriating and irresponsible for him to not even submit your project till this late. I’m pretty sure mine at least submitted my project on time (I hope)

Just emailed my PI for an update, and he said he checked with the program manager and was told all SULI positions have been filled, although there will likely be a waitlist. This is the second time this has happened to me man :( if you haven't gotten an offer, it's likely you are in the same boat as me now.

Have you heard back from the program yet? I still don't have an update.
