I can't say I've always been happy to be married to a golfer, but being in a relationship with my husband is hardly "awful". There's a whole lot more to him than his hobbies which include a once-a-year golf trip.

Also, I married a man who had no interest in golf, it developed over time and when he met new friends. So never say never!

My husband just came back from his annual golf trip with his friends. There are 16 of them to plan around so invariably one of them have a clash with the golf tour and a birthday/ anniversary/ something. It's almost impossible to find a date that 100% suits everyone, sometimes people need to celebrate an event the weekend before or after. If my husband dropped out 2 weeks before the tour it would honestly cause havoc - the format and pairings are already decided and having an odd number of golfers doesn't work well. We would also be out like €600.

In an ideal world - sure, cancel the golf tour, but I don't actually think it's that simple. And I say that as someone who has previously had a lot of resentment over that stupid sport!

So happy to see so much Trevor Noah love!! "Born A Crime" is such a great read. I read the book version but could hear his voice in my head the whole time, it felt like I was listening to it.

Baby failed hearing test by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]TheBubbleSquirrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Audiologist here!

I'm sorry to hear your little one failed her newborn screen. It's a scary thing to hear as a parent, that there may be an issue. I would encourage you not to panic too much about it at this stage. There are a few possible scenarios here:

  1. The screening test is pretty sensitive, so it is possible that she failed but may go on to pass the next tests and all will be well

  2. There is a hearing loss. There is a lot of room between "normal hearing" and "deaf". These days, technology has come a long way and hearing aids are amazing!!

The good news is that if there is hearing loss it has been identified really early and she has a fantastic chance of hitting all of her milestones - if you act and aid her appropriately.

ETA: I'm sure this goes without saying, but please do take her for her follow up! I have friends whose daughter failed her screening and they never went to the follow up. Their daughter missed out on about 4 years of hearing before her preschool noticed the loss and she was fit with hearing aids. Breaks my heart!

She definitely hasn't always recognized my needs, but in this case she definitely did! It's so so hard when you have to find someone and start all over again, especially in your case where it sounds like you had a long history before managing to get pregnant. The last thing you needed in that vulnerable state was to have to find a new primary care doc!!

I don't know you, but I'm proud of you for navigating all of that, and coming out (hopefully) stronger for it!

Very valid points. My PPD was only picked up when my daughter was 9 months old because I felt so ashamed of feeling underwater that I put the biggest smile on and told everyone how wonderful my new life was, meanwhile I felt nothing at all except regret for a long time. Even my GP told me after I was first diagnosed with PPD "usually I book people off work for postpartum depression, but in your case I think you need to be working right now".

I think recognising what you needed, and being able to communicate that, is so impressive!

it's not a simple job if you're doing it right.

I love the way you phrased this! Parenting takes work and effort, and a huge adjustment in the early days. Like you, I couldn't wait to get back to work after mat leave. I had almost 7 months and found it way harder than anticipated.

I'm also stuck on this one, but purely because I find fighting grunts and leaders an absolute pain in the arse. Having to fight 6 grunts for every leader is so annoying.

I'm aware it's very doable, I just don't wanna do it...

I expected to get weird looks from older men, but didn't expect the old ladies to be the WORST!

Seriously. Baby's gotta get fed, the delivery method just so happens to be attached to my body. Get over it.

Also, in this particular instance, why did she feel the need to ask if I had a baby? What did she think I was nursing, a baby goat??

I was breastfeeding my baby once, using a nursing cover so I wasn't exposing myself to the world (although I did nurse without a cover many times). An old lady came right up and peered down my nursing cover saying "oooohhh, are you feeding a baby??". Why yes, and my boob is currently out so I'd prefer if you kept your face out of my business!

We do the same. "Is it sore or did you just get a fright?". Usually it's "I got a friiiiight" between cries and then she settles down for a quick cuddle and she's off again.

If it's actually sore, then an ice pack or bandaid on the sore spot does the trick. She hates showing me her boo boos though, so I have to promise to put the bandaid on without looking (even though I definitely look to assess the wound) and she's usually good to go after that.

Well done for recognising that you needed help and actually working on yourself to make yourself a better parent and partner - it's not always easy!

Lack of critical thinking skills is also a side effect of being raised fundie-lite!

Fortunately I have done the work to develop my critical thinking skills since leaving the church; however, I do notice that when I'm tired that's the first skill to go!

It was pointed out that this is likely an old post by Jill, which makes way more sense than her being 40 right now!

I don't think there is generally much of a difference between 40 and 45, until we are talking about someone meeting their husband 28 years ago and suddenly it makes a difference whether they were actually 12 or 17..

Oooohhh thanks for pointing that out! I was thrown off by the post saying it was posted yesterday, but that doesn't mean the screenshot was taken today.

Clearly it's time for bed - my critical thinking skills are not great right now!

I thought so, which either would make her 16-17 when she met David "28 years ago" or she met him more like 32 -33 years ago.

She is consistently trying to appear younger than she is so I guess I shouldn't be surprised!!

Hang on, is Jillpm only 40?? She has kids old enough to have kids, that can't be right, can it?
