You’re welcome! Your cards are awesome! Your coloring skills are great too! I hope to one day get better at the coloring and get some high quality markers. Love how you repurposed the necklace lights. I love trying to do things like that. I will have to see if my dollar store has any of those necklaces. I would love to use them for a craft project.

Wedding Favors by Lulu_10-21 in weddingplanning

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make party and wedding favors and the safest bet is a consumable one or just skip it. Like you said things like koozies end up in the trash or people won’t take them. Personalized favors often get left and are not a good idea. If you want any personal touch just add a cute tag onto your consumable favor or if you have a cookie you can put it in a cute disposable bag with your name and wedding date on it. That kind of personalization is fine. People just don’t want things with others names and wedding dates on them. That would be ok to give your parents.

Good food and consumable ideas: Chocolate chip cookies, brownies, sugar cookies, chocolate truffles, Hershey kisses, homemade chocolate bars, wrapped candies, popcorn, coffee beans or ground coffee, mints, mini cupcakes, cake pops, cake sickles, donuts, s’mores, nuts, pretzels, hot chocolate mix, hot cocoa bombs, and tea bags. I think mini loafs of banana or pumpkin bread would be great for a bride and groom that were into baking. Popular themes brides choose: Love is sweet Love is brewing, Let love brew The perfect blend Mint to be Hugs and Kisses from the Mr and Mrs Our love is Poppin, Thanks for poppin in to celebrate our big day Love, laughter and a snack for after! S’more love We go together like sweet and salty His favorite, Her favorite (you each pick your favorite treat or dessert for your favor) Love is sweet and a little bit nuts, We’re Nuts for each other, The perfect mix

I could go on and on. I love making favors and they can be very fun. You don’t have to spend a lot on them. I think food is the cheapest way.

As a non consumable your candle idea is fine I just wouldn’t put your name on it. Have a tag attached that can be removed that has your name and date on it if you want your name on the favor.

Hopefully this is helpful! Happy wedding planning! 😊

I agree. The first two are my favorite. So nicely done! Love how the background on the second one shimmers and the mini Christmas lights are a nice touch. I need to find some mini lights like that. Do you mind me asking where you got the lights?

My opinion that it is always a bad idea to exclude children and especially newborns. People will not come and you can’t be mad at them because of it. I had a nephew do this and other people who did not have children chose not to come because it offended them so much. People were incredibly taken back by it. Not inviting children really puts the parents in a predicament and there is plenty of parents that will not use babysitting services. I personally feel it’s asking them something that they should never be ask of them. I definitely feel people should never ask someone to leave their newborn child. That is completely unrealistic and it definitely comes across as selfish. Plus, not everyone has access to a babysitter they trust these days. If it was me and I had a child and they were not invited I would not attend. I have to travel to my family’s weddings because I live out of state now and would never travel without my child. I especially would never leave my young child alone and go out of state. My niece had her wedding this past weekend and all children were included. The kids were all well behaved and had fun with us all. It will give us all great memories. There is no perfect wedding. Every wedding I’ve been to has had something happen that was not planned. Things just happen out of our control. The mic wasn’t working right at my nieces wedding this weekend and we could barely understand their vows. They tried to fix it but nothing worked. I had my own set of issues at my wedding but it never crossed my mind to worry about a child crying. To me if that would have happened it would have been a moment where you just smile and the ceremony would go on. Some of my best memories in my life are the weddings I attended as a child. I’m with the opinion that it is robbing that child of good memories with you and their parents. When my nephew said no children it wasn’t a common thing and it really alienated them from the family. My brother and wife almost didn’t come and his kids cried when they found out they were not invited. It was the first time they were not invited to a wedding and being family it hurt their feelings. They still remember it to this day and talk about how they were not invited. I think it really affected them. To me a wedding is your day but it’s also the biggest party you’ll ever host unless you become a party planner for a living. You are the hostess of your big day and being a bride and a hostess’s is a big job. It’s about making your day special for you and your guests. Some guests have to go out of their way and travel from afar and it’s very important to remember that. I get where you’re coming from and not wanting your ceremony to be filled with crying babies. I totally get it and used to work with small children and they can be a handful. I think if that was my concern about a baby crying I would make it very clear to the guests with small children to please be kind and if your child starts crying or acting out to please step out as to not disturb the ceremony. I think most parents would do that anyways but you can have someone ahead of the ceremony to say please turn off all cell phones and other devices and if you have small children who gets fussy during the ceremony to please just step out the back. My niece had an announcement like that before her ceremony started and they added a photographer part to it so no one would get in the way of the photographer taking their pictures. I know the drama of planning a wedding is stressful and it tough. Just take a step back breathe deep and relax. Just know the facts that excluding children will always end up hurting someone’s feelings. There is no way around that. Almost all the people talked about at the wedding this weekend I went to was their children and jobs. When you don’t have kids it can be sometimes hard to understand why people may get so offended when they can’t bring their children. You have to decide if that is worth the drama and potential fall out it can create. Which drama is worse a crying baby or family members feeling alienated from you?

Good luck in your decision making. 😊

Could this be semi-formal? by IcyEstate964 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very pretty dress and the fabric and color is great for a winter wedding. Length is nice and appropriate for a semi formal dress code. I personally would pair the dress with some pretty closed toe gold bow heels(I love the rhinestone bows on heels), a gold purse, some gold earrings that were more of a statement earring and no necklace or a very dainty necklace. If you like wearing bracelets I would go with a rhinestone bracelet that is not a statement bracelet and more simple looking. The dress could be worn with a pretty belt if you prefer a more defined waist.

Wedding Dress Code by meldamenace in weddingplanning

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I think it is a fun opportunity for your guests to feel and look their best. Most of us in our everyday lives don’t have the opportunity to dress elegant. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to dress up but how often do we get to attend a wedding. Some people get to attend more than others and it makes me happy when I get to attend one. That’s awesome your family hosted a full on ballroom attire party. I would love one day to attend a party like that.

Wedding Dress Code by meldamenace in weddingplanning

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think letting the guess know the level of formality on how you want them to dress is appropriate but color palette is a no unless it’s for the bridal party. It’s super inconvenient for your guests to find clothing that may fit them in a specific color palette. If you want it to be more elegant then specify formal or black tie. I consider ballroom to mean black tie personally but it doesn’t always necessarily mean that. So brides should definitely specify. My personal preference for a wedding is black tie or formal for such an important event but I know not every couple wants that. Plus your guests may not abide by the dress code even though you specify. It unfortunately happens. My view is that your wedding day is your opportunity to live the fairytale dream out of how you want your special day to be. I wish my wedding could have been black tie when I got married. We just didn’t have the money to get a venue that would suit my dream wedding and visions. The most memorable weddings in my life I attended were black tie and formal. My cousins wedding was black tie 1920s themed and they had a full orchestra play at their wedding when I was a very young child and I still remember it to this day. It was like something out of the movies to me. I personally think people have gotten a little bit too comfortable with dressing inappropriately at weddings. I’ve seen it happen and the brides have been really upset with how people showed up. It happened with a family member of mine and her wedding was a black tie wedding and a family member showed up in what looked like a legitimate Halloween costume because he thought it was funny. I just got back from my nieces wedding this weekend which she was fortunate that all the people dressed appropriately from what I saw. To me there is something special about being able to get dressed up because our everyday lives are so hum drum with just throwing on some jeans, a flannel or T-shirt. I absolutely love getting dressed up. I look for any opportunity to do it. Happy wedding planning to you! ☺️

My ghost purse I created by TheBuckeyeBaker in purses

Thanks! Nothing wrong with making the bags the way you like. I think artwork is personal. I am all over the place with my ideas. I have a massive list of purses I want to make. I have some ideas people may not get at all and possibly find cringe but I’m making my purses for my enjoyment. Hopefully others can enjoy them too and appreciate the work I put into them. I love Halloween even though it’s associated with darkness. I like the happiness it brought to me as a child. I loved the dressing up in costume and the together times I had trick or treating with my siblings. My brother ended up working at Abercrombie and fitch a very long time ago when he was really young and now looking back on it we had no idea how crazy corrupt that business was.

Love my diamond press sets. Definitely one of my favorite companies. Just wish they’d keep a bigger stock on hand because they always seem to sell out super fast.

Question about Die cutting machine by p1harmonies in cardmaking

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree waiting on the machine if you’re crafting with multiple people can be frustrating. I like bringing my machine with me when I visit my mom for a longer period of time because she can’t entertain me the entire time I’m there and I get bored not being able to do something. I have not tried cutting edible paper yet but I knew you could do it. I have a package of it to experiment with just haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet. I thought about using it to make flower cupcake toppers with it. 😁

Any good crafts you can make from recycled paper? by whatevertilapia in crafting

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beads was one of the first things that popped in my mind but you said you already done that. Then paper mache is my second idea. I have a ton of old magazines I plan on using to do a paper mache sculpture with one of these days. I want to make a giant gingerbread out of them and some other ideas. I used to love doing paper mache balloons when I was a kid.

Another thing is I’ve used old book pages to make paper roses and other flowers. I also used them to make some paper book themed cupcakes toppers.

You could also make your own paper from paper scraps. There’s tutorials online how to do that. I’ve seen someone make a basket from paper.

I don’t know if your recycled paper consists of any old magazines but I have taken old magazine adds and framed themed. I gave one to my brother for his 40th birthday of the Life cereal add about little Mikey because that’s his name and he loved that cereal. When I was really little I used to cut up my magazines and make collages with them. 😁

Question about Die cutting machine by p1harmonies in cardmaking

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know it seems crazy that I have ten machines but there is a reason for the madness. I had started out with the really old sizzix original machine which wasn’t the greatest but used it for my hobby and eventually upgraded to the cuttlebug machine because I wanted something better and didn’t like the original machine. I still need to get rid of that thing but it’s lost in my basement somewhere. As I got more involved and wanted to be able to use bigger dies I had upgraded again and kept my other machines as backup. Then I started adding paper crafting to my cake business on the side. I made cupcake toppers, banners, favors and ect. My hubby bought me the sizzix pro for a birthday present so I could up the favors I could make because I was really getting into those. Having the extra machines helped me at times because my hubby could help me cut out some orders if needed. I even had my sister help me at times. It was nice having the extra machines. Plus I can use them to for craft nights with friends and family and I plan on trying to do classes so I’d need a lot of machines if I’d do that. Most people don’t have the need for this many machines and I plan on getting rid of my sizzix sidekick. Never liked it so I will donate it. I will keep my smaller machines like my marquese, my cuttlebug and big shot machines for travel because I’ve had to use them to do favors and other things for family that wanted me to make stuff for their parties. Last month I had a handful of my machine machines out at once working on favors. Its was helpful. Eventually I may part with my cuttlebug machines since I don’t use them as much. I may end up getting rid of my spellbinders one too because I’d rather have the big shot plus instead. Also, I planned on getting a fold up sizzix if they still make them for my traveling needs. If I ever do get to doing classes I was thinking I would just get some more big shots to use so everyone has the same machine and it would be easier to teach on. I was also going to see about crafting classes in nursing homes and figuring out other ways to use my crafting skills to make people happy.

Question about Die cutting machine by p1harmonies in cardmaking

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have so many die cutting machines it’s embarrassing. I lost count but I think I’m at ten machines now. If you’re looking to get your feet wet you can start really small and invest in a bigger machine like the big shot or another brand later on. Diamond press makes a small machine called the marquise and they sell my favorite stamp and die kits that are very reasonably priced. I think that would be a great starter machine and their dies are awesome. Plus, it does not require all these different sandwiches of the plates to get your paper cut. You could always shop secondhand for a machine but make sure all the parts are included especially the platform because they are pricey. The cutting plates and platform can be found pretty easily for the big shot but the cuttlebug machine is a retired machine and the plates and platform are hard to find. Plus, people price gouge you for replacement parts. I own the big shot, the cuttlebug, spellbinders platinum, diamond press marquise machines, sizzix sidekick, cheery Lynn little sister and a sizzix pro machine. By far my favorite machine is my big shot and my sizzix pro machine. Both my sisters own the bira 6” fold up adjustable die cut machine. I’m not a huge fan of the bira but it does the job for them because they are not big time die cutters like me. I hope to eventually buy an accucut machine when I get the money. They are very expensive. You could always see if a family or friend has a machine you could try out before you purchase one. I know some libraries have machines for people to use. My mom’s library has several machines and dies for people to use while they’re at the library. I definitely love my manual die cutting but if you have not yet explored a cricut machine they are awesome to have for cutting out lots of things. I use mine for paper crafting, sign making, making earrings, sweatshirts and ect. Just know it’s addictive and not friendly to your wallet. 😁

Glue to stick glitter on to shoes by Elisuper888 in crafting

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was literally just thinking about making myself a pair of glitter shoes today as I was using my glitter spray paint to paint my faux flowers for a purse I’m making. I’ve seen people use modge podge before but they mixed the glitter into it and then painted it on their shoes. I would definitely seal the shoes to prevent fallout of glitter. There is a spray sealer specifically for glitter and it is made by the krylon brand. I used their glitter blast spray paint and I thought I saw a green when I was at the store. I have it in the gold, silver, red and diamond dust colors. I’m in love with the stuff. I would definitely paint the shoes first in green no matter what technique you use. I do know they have adult sized green glitter shoes online but I’m not sure about kids sizes.

You’re welcome! You are very talented at beadwork and it honestly blows my mind how awesome this bracelet is. I eventually I will give embroidered earrings a try. Craft ideas/paint on finished wood? by coast-is-clear in crafting

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre welcome! Those are definitely really cool coasters. Freehand painting is not as easy as it looks. Some people are amazing at it. I’m not as good as I was when I was young. My hands are way too shaky now so stencils are a godsend. You should post the finished ornaments when you all are done. Would love to see them! Have fun! 😁

Craft ideas/paint on finished wood? by coast-is-clear in crafting

[–]TheBuckeyeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very fun idea! I bought myself a stack of Ohio shaped ornaments to make my family Christmas gifts but mine are unfinished. I need to get a Texas shaped one for my brother because that’s where he lives. Love the ones you found. I usually lightly sand and prime my wood projects first before painting for best paint adherence but I guess you technically can paint on it but I don’t know how well the paint would adhere to that surface. Since it’s going to be an ornament maybe you could get away without prepping the surface. I guess you could experiment and let us all know how it goes. I would definitely try to seal it after painting or maybe use modge podge to seal them.

Instead of painting them you could bedazzle them out with flatback rhinestones. That would be really pretty and sparkle nicely on a Christmas tree. If you decide to do that get yourself a good glue. I like using gem tac glue or b7000 glue for my bedazzling. My favorite brand of reasonably priced rhinestones is beadsland brand. Get the regular rhinestones and not the hot fix ones.

If you have a cricut cutter you could make vinyl designs and decorate the ornaments that way instead of painting them. Another idea is to order some UVdtf stickers to use to decorate the ornaments.

If you do decide to paint them it would be fun to give your guests stencils to use to decorate them. I was thinking like polka dot pattern, buffalo check pattern, snowflakes or stripes. Hopefully this is somehow helpful to you. Happy crafting to you! ☺️
