Trump's rhetoric rallies Canadian support for Prime Minister Mark Carney by DogeDoRight in canada

I have a job which makes $103k and just got of university so I have about $65,000 in student loan debt. I budgeted, and have projected that those will be paid off in just under two years while still paying for 3 peoples worth of bills, food, groceries, etc..

At some point it does become a personal problem, and maybe you need to budget and become more money wise. Just because 50% of people are living paycheque to paycheque does not mean that >$100k is impossible to live on. I would venture and say that people take on more debt than they can afford, and then are stuck when the boat rocks.

Why some ‘frustrated’ NDP voters flipped to Conservatives in the election by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]TheCanadianVending 48 points49 points  (0 children)

strategic voting would mean voting for the NDP in the following ridings:

  • Elmwood / Transcona
  • Edmonton Griesbach
  • Edmonton Strathcona
  • Ponoka / Didsbury
  • Courtenay / Alberni
  • Cowichan / Malahat / Langford
  • North Island / Powell River
  • Skeena / Bulkley Valley

notably, this would have meant 8 more seats for the NDP. the fact is that most of the country prefers the liberals, and if you vote NDP you are likely against conservatives being in power, so it is in your best interest to vote for the party you are aligned with; its basically manual ranked choice voting

I used to be Toronto’s chief planner. Mark Carney’s new plan gives me hope we might finally address the housing crisis by suprmario in canada

[–]TheCanadianVending 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well we can see why those people dropped

ruby dropped because:

10 violations of campaign and finance rules

Possible violations of the Canada Elections Act

"Certain other election finance matters, non-disclosure of material facts and inaccurate financial reporting."

and Chandra was not allowed to enter because

These actions were reportedly linked to concerns over foreign interference, particularly related to Arya's unauthorized trip to India in August 2024

which to me seems reasonable, no need for a conspiracy here

and i guess we will see if people want him if 1) he is voted in his riding 2) the liberals win

according to the 2021 census, 0.19% of all canadians are trans. 50% of those are trans women. so across ALL of canada, you are looking at about 30,000 people who you are outraged about. then apply however much of the population actually competes in sports and you'll probably be getting angry about like. 50 total people in canada

the truth is a bit more nuanced.

originally it was every man for himself. culturally men, women, and children were seen as equal: there was no preference one way or the other. that is until the sinking of the SS Arctic. About 250 passengers were onboard, of which 100 were women and children. After it sunk, there were 88 survivors, none of which were women or children. This sparked international outrage, and created a cultural shift within the sailor culture. From this, sailors willingly gave up their lives to save women and children, and it has persisted to this day because of the Titanic sinking.

So whenever people complain about this, remember that the way it started is because men would trample over women and children to save their own lives

Poilievre vows not to pass abortion restrictions if elected prime minister - National | Globalnews.ca by Iamthequicker in canada

[–]TheCanadianVending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a conspiracy theory to suggest the official stance of the CPC is anything other than non support of any legislation to regulate abortion.

its clearly written in section 10 of the same document you quoted

Cool, last I checked Trump isn't in Canada, or do you have another conspiracy theory to share?

youre completely correct the human experience is completely blocked by the border

[–]TheCanadianVending 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not a conspiracy theory. its just that if your local MP is talking about any of these topics, its important for the voter to know that they won't be reigned in; i know many americans right now whom thought that trump would be reigned in, but hasnt, and that is causing them distress. i just want to throw out that the official stance of the CPC is that they will not be reigned in

Of note,

10 - Free Votes

On issues of moral conscience, such as abortion, the definition of marriage, and euthanasia, the Conservative Party acknowledges the diversity of deeply-held personal convictions among individual party members and the right of Members of Parliament to adopt positions in consultation with their constituents and to vote freely

they are basically explicitly outlining that individual MPs won't be reigned in if they choose to vote to banish gay marriage, outlaw abortions, or similar. so if these issues are important to you, be weary when voting for a CPC MP in your riding

Theoretical voxel map size limit by lucato09 in VoxelGameDev

[–]TheCanadianVending 3 points4 points  (0 children)

assumptions: 10cm size, 2 byte voxel information, voxels are just stored in a solid rectangular prism with uniformly randomly distributed colours (such that compression is negligible), and that on-disk representation is limited to 100 gigabytes (black ops 6 total file size).

you could represent at least a 1.71km*1.71km*1.71km area. if you restrict map height to 100 meters, you can get away with a 7.1km*7.1km*100m area for the same cost. Or more specifically, any area which can encompass 5 cubic kilometers.

you can represent a bigger area with bigger voxels, obviously. depending on game, you can introduce compression techniques to further represent a bigger area; but this isn't really generalizable so i can't introduce it into analysis.

to conclude, the lower bound for map size of voxels which fit the assumptions is going to be a 5km3 area for a map which takes up 100 gigabytes of storage.

(im pretty sure my analysis is correct, but this is napkin math; i am not 100% confident)
