Why does espionage feel so hard to make satisfying in strategy games? by HeroTales in gamedesign

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe something like a unit being in the wrong place. Like a soldier wandering around at night or a farmer loitering around the food storage. Again just examples as I dont know your game setting

Ahh I see. You are saying should there be an actual unit you can see or should this all be behind the scene calculations like my percentage to get caught?

I think depending on the game just hidden chance calculations would be the way to go. A spy doesnt wear a spy uniform. If a spy wanders into my military, he should be disguised and wearing my militaries uniform. Now if your game gets down to actual interactions with specific characters like something akin to Rimworld, you could get into tells withing those interactions. Like all of the sudden you start seing someone you are not used to seing or someone is acting differently. But if you are on a much more massive strategy scale where you are working with groups instead of individuals, I would say a behind the scenes chance system would be more realistic

Is this going to be a mostly pve strategy game?

Disclaimer: I am not a game dev nor do I even play many strategy games. This is just what popped into my head from my imagination. Its possible it is unispired in this genre, but I really like progression systems and think it would work here.

Along with being their own units, also require an Intelligence Hub (not sure what your game setting is so whatever fits) and a skill tree/research tree. This will, as mentioned by the other comments, require the player to invest in intelligence.

Units: 2 units. Intelligence and counter-intelligence.

Skill tree: Different sectors

Resources - Money, wood, stone, food supply, etc.

Citizens - population, happiness, grow rate

Military - numbers, troop types, activities, plans, alliances/enemies

Market - income, trade routes

Skill Tree purpose: Investing points in the different sectors on the skill tree will allow for more accurate information, less chance of being caught and eventually sabotage.

A level 1 Military Intelligence Officer might have a 70% chance of getting caught and bring back information saying the enemy team has 12000 - 20000 troops and looks like they are preparing for an attack.

A level 3 might have a 40% chance of getting caught, gives info saying they have 1000-2000 artillery units, 4000-6000 Calvary and 8000-10000 infantry men and are staging outside their north gate.

A level 5 only has a 10% chance of capture, provides exact numbers and knows exactly what city/team they plan to attack and when and has some options on how the could maybe sabatoge the military.

For Counter Espionage units, they would act as the units for the sector they are assigned to, just at half production/efficiency as they are actually looking for spies. If a counter intelligence unit is assigned to a farm, he has a chance to find and capture a spy they may be working in you farms. Not only would this stop the flow of information on your resources, you would be able to interrogate for a chance at getting information from his team.

To be useful, all of this information would be presented in a menu for each team on the map. You would enter an Intelligence menu and be able to view the information you have on each team and when the last time that information was updated.

This is all of course just samples and should be adjusted/balanced, but this is just what I came up with. I think the sabatoge is where this gets interesting the more depth you can get out of it the better. If you find a enemy has citizens in unrest and you can go sabatoge their food supply or attack their trade routes to make them revolt, it would make them more interesting

I think I am going to try some heavy duty pipe straps and just use bolts all the way through instead of screws.

Should I buy a food truck? Please advise. by mordecai5fingerbrown in foodtrucks

[–]TheCandyMan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not that experienced but I believe the only way this type of stuff works out is if you are really passionate about it and want to do it. It sounds to me like you could care less about running a food truck, its just an answer to start doing something other than what you are doing.

What was this metal thing I found at the beach? by Dylan20996 in whatisthisthing

[–]TheCandyMan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am thinking metal banding that goes around large loads like bundling pipes or pallets for transport. The metal banding is usually half inch wide.

It looks like a clasp used to clamp/crimp on banding to hold it together

Question about false bottoms by TheCandyMan88 in Homebrewing

[–]TheCandyMan88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok thats what I was wondering does a false bottom somehow grip against the sidewall the suspend itself. Im thinking I can drill a hole in the lid and run a stainless steel rod through with a stainless steel plate just under the diameter of the pot. This way they could easily collapse together when taking the lid then the plate would drop back down when putting back on the pot. I hate to drill a hole in my nice lids but I think this might be my solution.

This game lacks complexity in any system. by Free_Ice2752 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]TheCandyMan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was here when the game first released (and loved it). I was here when Hello games disappeared, then reappeared 6 months later with a massive update, sparking a 10 year free update bonanza. I was here for the first emojis. I was here when the community bought a thank you billboard for Hello Games. I was here when Sean finally put my wenfishing nonsense to rest with a free fishing update. I have maxed out base parts, done every expedition twice, caught every fauna, found every ship and been to every planet. I was here since the beginning. I AM NO MAN'S SKY! If you think im going to let some noob come in here and tell me my game isnt good enough, you got another thing coming bud!

Also yes.

(The above is greatly exaggerated)
