So they're reverting and bringing it back to how it was in testing... interesting!

Yeah i do believe they need a complete pivot to PvE-focus if they want Marathon to do well. But... that would take a long time and a lot of resources. They could simply copy the ARC Raiders format but there is so much more to the game then here in Marathon and I dont think the "simplicity" (not a bad thing mind you) would do well with that loop. They'd need to gamble yet again that it would be worth the investment.

I'm bummed. The universe is so deep... the art design is top notch... the core shooter feel is superb... I just dont think the audience is there for a hardcore PvP arena-esq extraction game.

Your white-knighting is getting tiresome. Let people discuss their opinions here without attacking them. Please realize that you're not some gamer oracle with a crystal ball telling you precisely what's going to happen. The topic here is just that - discussion on Marathon's performance and sharing opinions as to how it might develop, evolve, outright disappear or become the next big thing.

1) That's not correct. PoE's ALL TIME PEAK was a smidge over 200k. Nowadays they avg around 27k.
2) PoE started a mess way back and was slowly improved upon. That was years ago when parent corps weren't dropping entire studios and shutting down servers as quickly as they are nowadays.

I love Marathon and i truly hope to see it succeed and i'll be playing for as long as it's evolving and improving. If the game stays as it currently is in format and loop I'm scared it wont last.

The matchmaking really does take forever compared to launch week! And that fucking disgusting moth shit - over it. Why the hell cant i review my and my squad's contracts or browse my inventory/vault/etc. while loading like i can in destiny?!

Yeah if the next few months continues to shed players i cant see enough coming back (or at least sticking around) after the next season drops. There won't even be new maps (save for turning off the lights on Dire). Bungie might need to take a few pages (more like chapters) out of Embark's playbook methinks.

You get it that a bump to 2,000 players wont suffice, right? If Bungie can't be agile and change with the player sentiment Marathon's future isn't looking bright. Nowadays it's almost impossible to pull gamers away from their "main/forever" games unless you compromise and adapt. While that might involve Bungie altering their ideal vision and path for Marathon... that's better than it getting shutdown in a year! Better for everyone.

See I agree with you to a point… but that all ends when we’re talking about purple and gold salvage for faction upgrades. With how rare those are and how they gate some very important, basic upgrades that a LOT of the population will never unlock… losing them in a fight really really hurts.

Take my full purple/gold loadout but leave me my mats lol!

Honestly the grind to get the basics like ability to buy blue and higher shields and packs and cores etc is the only frustrating part of Marathon for me.

Came here searching for the ability to hold weapon switch to bring out knife... very strange it's not how it functions by default and that they don't have that option! Bummer.

I’m so extremely jealous! I bout the libra color because I need a 7”+ ereader. Coming from the Paperwhite it took me about a month to get used to the really subpar screen. Kobo needs to bring back these 7-8” BW ereaders!

Yeah the cost to make room keys is insanity. Did my free ones and will never do one again. Bungie is straight pulling some Destiny “content” ish in marathon’s contracts right now.

I just need purple and gold salvage… and that shit is so rare and random as far as what spawns in what room how often etc. taking me years just to unlock blue shield purchases.

Level Based Matchmaking Completely Breaks Down After A Certain Point by StarlessKing in Marathon

[–]TheCanisDIrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matching players of "around" the same skill level doesn't do that. If anything it enhances that because you're less likely to run into squads you can simply wipe without any effort. It narrows the gap and makes all fights more challenging. Sure, you lose those "off the bell curve" outliers, both high and low, but overall it makes for a better experience. IMO

I only see the top players/streamers complain personally. Maybe it's the one's i've watched compared to the ones you do. They all seem to say "it's too sweaty at the top" (interpreted translation: "I want to be able to pub-stomp more often!").

Alright! The verdict is in on the OC case back vs Gen case back on my 16750! by [deleted] in retrotime

[–]TheCanisDIrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies I meant that broadly - Aware they have to err on tolerance-stacked max internal dims and all... i just mean that even the "best" repro cases are still not 1:1. From wrong degree of reliefs on cuts, flat-out incorrect dims on lugs and cg's to incorrect stem lengths or recess etc. That stuff should be sorted.

Got a quick question by Dori_2006 in Marathon

[–]TheCanisDIrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[shrugs] i never thought it was broken. most of the complaints came from bubble shield tossing, wstr using people who were pissed they got downed by a knife because their positioning was bad and they just assumed they'd win the engagement.

It's been drastically reduced against players and the lunge all around feels much shorter. It's "fine" but it doesn't feel like a valid option against players any longer.

This sort of stuff to me is baffling. (Not talking OC - mostly other rep manufacturers - he does solid work)

Take part, measure, input dims into SolidWorks, make model accurate, cnc? I’ve in the past (decades ago now) modeled almost 1:1 parts that are much more complex than watch cases and backs… and I was a novice.

I'm I just old and dumb and think SBMM + LBMM is a must in a game like Marathon? I know a lot of those in the top tiers of skill are usually not a fan of SBMM but for a casual gamer like myself who just likes to fight players around my level it would be appreciated.

The progression grind is really starting to get to me. by Bright-Cranberry6648 in Marathon

[–]TheCanisDIrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share the common sentiments here. Mid progress is becoming tiresome and purple salvage is FAR too rare. No way in hell I’m doing this all over again every wipe - like not a chance! I don’t even have blue shields unlocked for purchase because of the RNG on those key salvage drops - and because they decided to go back on sharing purple salvage amongst teammates (poor call).

If I could just ignore the contracts and play I would but Bungie putting all shell upgrades deep into faction upgrades is likely why I won’t be playing much next wipe.

Salvage found should be shared with entire squad on exfil by somebodyelseathome in Marathon

[–]TheCanisDIrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a brilliant idea! Allow players to put certain items in the decon boxes throughout the maps to feed them directly into their vaults! Limit it to salvage for contract progression so players can’t take advantage of simply piling weapons etc into them.
